Last night's Joe Wilson outburst should make it clear that it's only a matter of time before some Republican in Congress or prominent conservative is caught with an open mike or in front of an unknown camera saying the N-word about our president.

2. I'm sure it's already happened
there just wasn't an open mic around and a small group of prominent Republicans won't rat out another prominent Republican.

4. Anyone here remember Earl Butz from the Ford Administration?
He made those remarks on an airplane, not in front of cameras or mikes:

cut

Butz started by telling a dirty joke involving intercourse between a dog and a skunk. When the conversation turned to politics, Boone, a right-wing Republican, asked Butz why the party of Lincoln was not able to attract more blacks. The Secretary responded with a line so obscene and insulting to blacks that it forced him out of the Cabinet last week and jolted the whole Ford campaign. Butz said that "the only thing the coloreds are looking for in life are tight p - - - - , loose shoes and a warm place to s - - -."

After some indecision, Dean used the line in Rolling Stone, attributing it to an unnamed Cabinet officer. But New Times magazine enterprisingly sleuthed out Butz's identity by checking the itineraries of all Cabinet members.

5. Don't hold your breath.
They have learned to only speak like that around their own people in private. We'd need a defector that wanted to take some people down to record them.
Better than the N-word would be to catch them talking about class warfare. Not what they whine about every time something progressive is proposed. We need to get the goods on them talking about their policies designed to create (or keep) the wealthy ruling class. Exposing the truth on that would get the attention of even some of their ignorant poorer supporters.

11. I'm amazed it hasn't popped
out already on national TV by one or more of them. The looks of anger, hatred and just plain meanness in that photo of Wilson and the 2 men seated on either side of him made me think the N-word was on the tip of their tongues. Also hard to forget the cries of, "Kill him" at the Palin rallies during the campaign. The magma chamber is filling. Only a matter of time before the eruption. We are a country with a deep streak of racism that has now elected a black man President. Only a matter of time.
