We need a Constitutional Amendment!
Military actions will require 1) A draft and 2) A progressive tax of 3% going up to 15% of all income and capital gains for the duration of the conflict. 3) Anyone who is drafted is exempted from the tax.

Never again should we haphazardly take action. If military action is crucial then it requires each and every citizen be prepared to sacrifice to preserve our nation. When these adventures cost blood at random and take a bite out of the dragon hoard, I bet more often than not that cooler heads will prevail.

2. Doubtful, they'll spend blood but not their money
It's a two pronged deal. The draft to create outrage in the general population and the tax to make the warmongers REALLY think it out before doing something frivolous.

To be honest, I think the draft alone would kill silly shit like Iraq but the tax would be a big double down. You take the profit away and it would take something real to make any moves.

7. It would have to be a hell of a production. Normal taxes + 15%
makes it hard to extract too much profits. In most cases it would surely be more profitable to do business as usual but we could jack that rate up.

Seriously, with the hatred of taxes in this country even from those that aren't paying them their would be very little chance of ever having public support enough to fight. You add a draft to that and there would have to be some epic Wag the Dog shit happening to motivate this country to do squat.

I'd be more concerned we'd be to greedy and selfish to actually defend ourselves at need than anything.

5. "for the duration"?
How is that defined? "Mission Accomplished"?

How about Korea, which has been in cease fire for decades?

6. The tax would still be on. So, you get in and get out if you have to go at all
no multi-generation occupations. If you have troops deployed then the draft and tax are in full effect.
