Good Job President Obama...Things are starting to align for victory
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 08:38 AM by Peacetrain
As the heat literally and figuratively of August is behind us.. we now see a re-alignment of politicians and even ordinary Americans coming out to support the President as he pushes for Health Care Reform.

Thank you to those brave souls standing up to the harridans who are calling themselves tea party people and showing them where middle America really stands. I just finished watching some poor woman having her sign of support ripped out of her hand by an outraged and irrational angry man.. at one of those rallies

Thank you to our congress people who have had to withstand the outrage of the right fringe being ginned up by the likes of Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh etc.. you had a long August also.

Thank you to our President for grabbing the bull by the horns on his health care speech and literally turning it around in an evening... giving people the answers they needed.

Thank you to the brave hearts and souls who just keep slugging it out, even when everything and everyone around them tries to dissuade them..

Victory in not to the swiftest.. but to the persistent.

I salute you.. one and all. You are my heroes in every sense of that word.

6. I think he's spending his limited political capital intelligently.
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 09:15 AM by Orsino
I might prefer him to stand unambiguously for progressivism, but he seems determined to tilt the scales in our general direction, as much as he is able.

I just really, really wish he'd try to end our wars/occupations, and take a clearer stance on equality.

8. ICAM. And I think all the uproar of August combined with Wilson's outburst
really shows the repubicans in a horrific light. So, we get reform and now the public knows exactly what the repub party is - a bunch of racist boors who have no dignity and don't care about the American people.

I'd say it's a homer and it bodes well for the coming elections.

Rally on Health Insurance Reform
with President Barack Obama

On Saturday, September 12, 2009, President Barack Obama will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota to hold a rally on health insurance reform.

In Minneapolis on Saturday, President Obama will discuss what’s at stake for the American people in this debate – why we need health insurance reform and why we need to act now.

President Obama’s health insurance reform plan has two goals—to bring stability and security to Americans who have insurance today, and affordable coverage to those who don’t. And his plan will bring reforms that will reduce the unsustainable growth in the cost of health care, which has doubled in the last decade and will again, unless we act.

The rally will be free and open to the public. Space is available on a first come, first serve basis. No ticket is required.
All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, no sharp objects, no umbrellas, no liquids, no strollers, and no signs will be allowed into the venue.

Cameras are permitted.

Guests with disabilities are encouraged to enter through the skyway level of Target Center.

Overnight camping will not be permitted. Lines may begin forming at 6:30am on Saturday, September 12."

17. I rec'd for the positiveness of your post. Refreshing, to say the least. But WHO are you
talking of, when you talk about those brave Democratic souls who are standing forward to pass the bill?

I can't think of many who have said they insist on the public option and will fight for it. Can you? Pelosi was one, but no more. Reid - he never was keen on it. Rahm Emmanuel - there is the problem....he never was crazy about it. Obama - he wants it, but will let it fly out the window to get Olympia Snowe's vote.

Patrick Leahy is one. He has a petition for you to sign, to support the public option. (I signed it.)

Pushing a bill that the Blue Dogs want, the insurance companies want, and that the Republicans are trying to stop for political reasons but wouldn't mind having as a health bill....there's nothing particularly brave about that, I think. I'm glad they pursued one of the big goals they had planned to do (the Obama administration). But I don't think what they've put together is particularly brave.

Except brave in the sense that they are daring the people who voted them in power, daring them not to vote them out. But they will be voted out next year. You will see.
