BANG BANG? I Demand an apology from CNN on their "Report Now, Factcheck Later" News protocol!
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 12:51 PM by FrenchieCat
They are not a news organization, they are a sensationalism bureau.

They scare the shit out of the American people for any reason that they can come up with....
and report erroneous information as facts.

President Obama retold a story about Walter Cronkite's journalist ethics, in a speech
that was broadcasted on CNN just this week! CNN obviously didn't take note.

"Even in his early career, Walter Cronkite resisted the temptation to get the story first in favor of getting it right. He wanted to get it first, but he understood the importance of getting it right. During one of his first jobs in Kansas City, Walter's program manager urged him to go on the air reporting a massive blaze -- and we just heard how much he loved fires -- a massive blaze at city hall that had already claimed lives. When Walter reached for the telephone, his boss asked, "What are you doing; get on the air!" Walter replied that he was calling the fire department to confirm the story. "You don't need to confirm it," the manager shouted, "my wife is watching the whole thing!"

Needless to say, Walter made the call, and even as the program manager took to the air himself to broadcast the unfolding tragedy, Walter discovered that it had been nothing more than a small fire that hadn't resulted in any injuries. He lost his job -- but he got the story right."

1. Exactly! You don't report "Scanner Chatter" on national television.
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 12:41 PM by ShortnFiery
To add insult to injury, you should cease and desist any further reporting to your superiors and inform them you need to FACT CHECK with authorities upon hearing the Coast Guard "play cowboy" by yelling on the scanner "Bang! Bang! Bang!" :wtf: :eyes:

The journalist herself was a complete IDIOT to ask that *only* scanner communications be reported on national TV, but when she heard an off-shoot to the Intro song on Kill Bill, Volume 1 ("Bang! Bang! He shot me down") ... well, let's just say it should have given whatever shred of professionalism in her reporting - pause.

the "Bang! Bang!" on national television, I was appalled. As a young woman in the active duty army, I was blessed to serve as a signals intelligence officer. However, even journalists should know that scanner communications MUST be verified by other sources.

Thanks again for posting this at CNN.

8. Other people will be demanding an apology as well.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded almost two dozen flights because of media reports there was a possible incident in D.C. waters, officials told BNO News on Friday.

Around 10 a.m. EDT, as a ceremony to remember the people who died in the terrorist attack at the Pentagon exactly eight years ago, CNN reported that the U.S. Coast Guard had opened fire on a suspicious boat on the Potomac River. The CNN report was quickly picked up by national and international media, including BNO News, who cited CNN as its source.

While reporters on air discussed the possibility of a possible terrorist attack, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded a total of 17 flights between 10.08 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. EDT, according to FAA spokeswoman Diane Spitalieri.

Spitalieri said the ground stop was put in place out of precaution because of the news reports. The ground stop was initiated at Regan National Airport in D.C. Also other emergency services were dispatched to the area, based on the media reports.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard says it did nothing wrong and said it was a normal exercise which is conducted regularly. The department says it communicated over a training radio frequency what was happening during the fake incident. It also says that the transmissions started and ended with someone saying it was a drill, and that the reported "shots" were in fact someone simulating them.

18. OK. Thanks.
Unbelievable. Actually it is believable. It's just not good enough for these whores to report the day's events at face value. They've got to spice it up any way they can.

At the beginning of the town halls this summer, when President Obama made his first appearance, they actually commented on how peaceful it was (disappointment showing in their faces) and how it might get out of control once the question and answer phase started (practically drooling with anticipation). When it didn't happen they broke away to different town hall.

13. Actually, it didn't scare me at all. They've broadcast so many "be afraid" stories
in the last several years that later proved to be such overblown bullshit that whenever I hear one now I think, "okay, is it something I have to take immediate action about to protect myself? Nope. Then I'm going to assume it's probably a pantload like the last 20 stories and wait a few days for it to all fall apart."

17. Honestly, I don't know what to make of this "story".

a. We have a "newz" industry that is anything but, more qualified to report on the latest Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan scandal than actual news events. But more than a decade of hiring "bubble headed bleach blonds with a gleam in their eye" (Don Henley) who have journalism degrees from the "Close cover before striking school of Truck Driving and TV Reporting" and you get this, what passes for journalism today.

b. My paranoid self thinks that elements of the military might actually try to stage a "coup" by making a real attempt on the life of the President. A few misguided idiots (and religious nutcases) might even convince themselves that 1. It's the correct course of action because President Obama is NOT legitimate (birthers and tea baggers and the serious way they are reported, as if they actually have a reasonable argument) and 2. There would be popular support to remove him (the teabaggers and members of the Republicans party ACTING like teabaggers, and again the reporting that might make some thing that this is the most unpopular President ever. Anyone watching Faux would get this message.

c. My slightly less paranoid self thinks that elements of the military might be out to embarrass the President, so we get situations like running a live exercise on 9/11 in the Potomac just as the Presidential motorcade is passing. without telling any agency, like the Secret Service, that they are doing so. Just like the Air Force 1 low level flyover of New York for "photos". Tone deaf, but passive aggressive insubordination.

d. Other - simple incompetence all around, Coast guard, DC police, Secret Service, and CNN.

Honestly, I don't know which one is correct. I actually hope that it's "D".

20. Having spent my life within "a military community" I can attest to the fact that the military
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 01:45 PM by ShortnFiery
in practice, is non-partisan. If anything they are thrilled to have an intelligent Commander in Chief. Obama looks insightful and speaks to The American People as fellow grown-ups. Our former President addressed us either with condescension or as members of his bad-boy fraternity.

No, the Coast Guard had this exercise planned and informed all the players in advance. The Secret Service didn't need to be notified because when things got "fired-up" (see "Bang! Bang!" reported on scanner radio) they were already on their way back to the WH.

With these exercises prior notification is often based on a "Need to Know."

Lord knows now you can't inform the media ahead of time because they can't seemingly keep any damn thing to themselves. If you PUBLISH an exercise of this small magnitude it serves as an OPEN INVITATION for the real terrorists to closely scope out the proceedings and/or foment violence.

CNN screwed up and now their buddies in the other whorish media (MSNBC, FOX) are jumping to their defense.

22. Not everyone in the military is "thrilled" to be led by
a black Democrat.

But set that aside.

Having the exercise TODAY (of all days) exhibits a tone deafness that is just this side of complete stupidity.

Terrorists have often selected dates that mean something, all to often they select dates that are anniversaries of previous terrorist attacks. To run an exercise today, right when the President was visiting the Pentagon (next to the Potomac river), especially when the Pentagon was also involved in the previous terrorist attack on this date...

It was stupid.

And completely unnecessary.

And CNN simply f*cked it up in the reporting.

23. If anyother day, today is a perfect day for the coast guard to be on alert.....
able and ready, in particular with the President travelling nearby.

If anything, it is the media that is stupid, and what they did was uncalled for,
as it was reporting something that was not factual.

CNN did fuck up.....but they are on their own on this one.

24. No it's not! It would have gone un-noticed by the populace had CNN been a professional
news organization.

Also, the military is fully INTEGRATED with regard to race. Gender is another story as in my next life, I'd love to be a tank commander.

The Coast Guard trains every day and notified all the players.

Yes, they can have an exercise on the Potomac on the Anniversary of 9/11. Especially since the ceremony was over and the President was well on his way from the Pentagon to the WH.

This would not have been REPORTED at all had CNN taken a few minutes to fact check. Lord knows we can't trust them to report such actions beforehand. They can't keep a secret and public notice would give the real terrorists scoop to come and "take notes" (spy on the operations).

26. You make an interesting point about the military's view of the President . . . thanks
On Inauguration Day, a friend of mine, a former military officer, watched the new President return salutes from the parade reviewing stand and told me that it was obvious that someone had taught him how to salute and that he had practiced it until he got it right. I asked him if it bothered him (thinking he might believe this to be a contrived gesture).

He said it didn't bother him at all and, in fact, made him feel good about the President since, by showing such concern for perfecting his salute, the President was showing the utmost respect to the military he now commands.

I thought that was very cool.

19. I was at hotel thinking CNN was better than Fox
staying at a very very 99% red town and then that broadcast came on. It made them look stupid and the whole thing a sham. And the whole room looked like it was filled with mostly republicans from all over the area. At first I thought they are trying to be good no Fox, no MSNBC let's put CNN on in the middle...

well all it did was make them look dumb and stupid.
