Is there any real value in letting the News Cycle on this continue for another week? The GOP Leadership will have no choice but to take the bait and rise in his defense. I get the chess game that's afoot. If they they say bad decorum but he was right, the the dems can make them look stupid. If they hang him out to dry. the base is going to call them cowards.

The problem is that either way Joe Wilson is going to play the martyr and it will only serve as a rallying cry for the Limbaughs and the Hannitys to drive greater antipathy by the Right Wing and in turn drive up fundraising for the next election. It is all they got.. but they will use it to their belief with he base, They want Wilson to be the Martyr... And I don't want to give them the satisfaction.

Most people are simply going to yell "a Pox on the entire Congress" when they see the war erupting over picking this scab. And view it correctly as political mud wrestling. Let the Pundits have their day. Let them twist the GOP in knots. But let the People's House look like it is tending to the People's business.

3. A martyr to the crazy tea-baggers, but the swing voters are likely appalled. He's not their hero.

11. I agree with you.
Wilson already accomplished the task of making the next day's news about him, and took some of the shine off of the President's speech. We should have been discussing just how firm the support was for the public option from the President and Congress, instead, we're discussing just what level of punishment fits the crime.

The President has already been gracious enough to accept his apology. If Congress spends any more time on this guy, they just risk looking petty and ineffectual. The ultimate accountability of a member of representative government lay with the voters that put Joe Wilson into office. And if he becomes a symbol of what those liberal Yankees want to do to a Southern guy, he's guaranteed another term, no matter what the polls in his district say today.

Hannity and Limbaugh are looking for someone to be the poster child for their "Obama's gonna get you!" scare tactics. They'd love to see Joe Wilson be a martyr, they did that when Joe the Plumber's background started coming out.

12. Martyr's are dead

If he actually makes a real apology fine.

But if he turns this into a cause then he should be stripped and sent home, and yes they have the power to do that.

13. That reminds me of a comment I read on
JackandJill Politics..

<snip>>

"Okay, some late breaking stuff involving Joe “you lie” Wilson.

It appears that House Dem leaders are now considering inflicting censure on Wilson for yelling at the president last night, despite Nancy Pelosi’s earlier claim that it wouldn’t happen.

Here’s how it went down today. Dem Rep Jim Clyburn, who strongly rebuked Wilson in public, privately approached him on the House floor today to demand that he apologize to the full House, a leadership aide says.

But Wilson refused, the aide adds, saying he’d already communicated a private apology to White House adviser Rahm Emanuel.

House Dem leader Steny Hoyer, meanwhile, approached GOP leader John Boehner to push for an apology from Wilson, the aide adds.

The House Dem leadership has now concluded that a public apology from Wilson is necessary. “Congressman Joe Wilson brought dishonor to the House,” another leadership aide says. “He needs to apologize to the House on the floor for his behavior and if he does not, action will be taken when we return to session next week.”

House leaders are discussing the possibility of a Floor resolution censuring Wilson, the first aide confirms.

It’ll be interesting to see how President Obama handles this. He said today he accepted Wilson’s apology. So what will the White House say about the House leadership’s push for some form of censure?

In other words, this story isn’t going anywhere. It could stretch into next week"

But, the comment was..lol..

"I don't want no censure or resolution to denounce this bastard.

I want him shyt-canned out of the House of Representatives.

I want his cracker ass to be fried, dyed and laid to the side as an EXAMPLE of what happens when "Wing Nuts Go Wild".

That is all."

over 200K since the speech from right-wing dunderheads who think it's just aces that he shouted at the President of the United States on the FUCKING HOUSE FLOOR.

15. Agreed, trying to reprimand him farther will only encourage the neocons to give him more money
And it also won't give our side much of a reason to donate tons of money to someone. Sure a few people will donate to Wilson's opponent (again) as a 'counter donation', but it won't be able to match the extra haul that an official reprimand (or censor) from the house would give Wilson & the GOP.

16. I think some kind of "official" institutional sanction is in order.
No matter what he says or does now.

One meme out there now is that he has apologized 5 times already so it's time to drop it and move on. But those are all basically informal apologies. I'd think some kind of formal disgrace for the record might serve as a deterrent to others.

Because that sort of spineless approach seems to be working out so well for Democrats, lately.......

(Large sarcasm alert, for those perennially in need of it....)
