We need to capture the redistricting progress in every state...

This is the year that will determine which way the Congress will go from 2012 on...

It is of the up most urgency that everyone knows who sits on the redistricting boards and how they get there.

It's the only way to make sure our agenda is at least given a hearing in DC.

does not check the subject line, only the message content.

4. It's gerrymandering if they do it...
If we do it, it's redrawing the districts to properly reflect the districts ethnic and racial make-up.

5. Ok. I didn't know this was happening...
Is this across the board or just in certain districts/certain states?

8. Every state redraws the districts after the census determines
how many congressional seats each state will get.

12. Thanks - will see what my district is doing on this.
Our district (D-14 Illinois) is the craziest looking thing. It starts out in the Chicago area here in Kane County and then travels west to almost the Mississippi River. Maybe at one time it's purpose was to capture the farm vote but this area is increasingly urban/suburban.

7. That is so right.
It's still up in the air here in CA...

Just how we will accomplish this? Some argue that we need to keep our "safe" seats, and some (myself included) argue that in order to get new folks into the mix, we need to not gerrymander the way it's been done in the past.

Make people run on the issues. That's so important, and so many won't. They're in thrall to the corporate interests, and we know where that's gotten us.

14. Yes, which is why it's important to pay close attention to local politics
Some states of redistricting boards, but most leave it up to the state legislature, so it's important to support candidates for the state legislatures.

16. Yes, this determines many things for 10 years!
After the last redistricting Michigan Dems have had truly impossible odds of flipping several districts designed to keep the Rethug safe.

I urge every DUer to find a Dem to help elect to ensure it's us holding the pencil when it's time to redraw the lines.
