If you are a Teabagger, failure apparently doesn't mean squat. Or does it (mean squat)?
Most of America hasn't been following the Tea Party oops, I mean Teabagger movement so some explanations are in order. On April 15th, the first Teabagging demonstrations all across the US were supposed to draw crowds in the tens of millions. After moving the goal posts several times, the first Teabagger movement was estimated to have a total participation of around 250,000 and that is probably being generous. This is not an impressive number for an event that had two weeks of national cable TV coverage courtesy of a major conservative news agency.
Not folks to take their Teabagging failures lying down, the organizers at FreedomWorks and the other Right Wing think tanks (Astroturfing their specialty) decided to give it another go. They sent invitations out to the conservative netizens and other groups and set a new date for 9/12/09. This time, however, the plan was for the tens of millions to congregate in Washington DC. They reasoned that such a large number in the nation's capitol all being together instead of in cities all across the US would mean that their message that only Republicans can initiate record deficit spending and then only for completely frivolous reasons (saving the economy and the country's financial system isn't a valid reason as far as the Teabaggers are concerned) would have to be reckoned with.
What FreedomWorks and the rest of the Teabagging architects didn't take into account was that people wouldn't care enough about the message to show up. When all was said and done on Saturday, around 20,000 people participated in the Teabagging festivities. As Washington DC is a tourist city where there are daily multitudes of visitors making the rounds of the capitol, the White House and the mall, the number was small enough to be virtually unnoticed by DC natives.
What is even more underwhelming is that, upon doing research on the FreedomWorks website for this article, I found out that there were more attempts at major Teabagging events on July 4th and July 17th. The response was so terrible that there was literally zero coverage of the events. I'm going to have to ask FreedomWorks and other Teabagging head honchos to at least get a few thousand people at these events in the future so that there is enough coverage so that those of us needing a good laugh and the opportunity to write fun articles at their expense can at least hear about them.
One would think that the embarrassing failures of July 4th and July 17th, not to mention the fizzle on April 15th, would have shown the Teabaggers how little support there was for their movement, but the few loyal Teabaggers persist in their attempts at Teabagging. One could almost say these diehards have a lust for Teabagging, and they are going to keep trying to get more people to join in. What the Teabaggers don't have in numbers they make up for in the wing-nutty, moonbat, tinfoil hat signs department. See these and make sure you aren't starting to eat or drink anything:

Isn't this like bragging that it took you 7 years to complete high school?
Yes, being "Infromed" is important I guess
and a sign from the April 15th protest shows that the newer signs are right in line with the ones from the earlier protest:

To give one an idea of just how bad this latest Teabagging effort failed, a local effort on the same day in New York that wasn't well publicized resulted in 50,000 people marching in favor of Health Care Reform. Even worse, around 20,000 people typically show up at a Washington Nationals home game for a team in baseball's cellar. That's our Teabaggers, Dick's Armey of protesters are the Washington Nationals of political protesters.
