Michael Savage fired ... Thank God.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-peter-breggin/michael-savage-irrepressi_b_284651.html

Michael Savage, an independent syndicated radio commentator, has been severed from KNEW, the important San Francisco outlet for his Savage Nation. The station issued a terse statement: "Here's your no-spin direct answer; we have decided to go in a different philosophical and ideological direction, featuring more contemporary content and more local information. The Savage Nation does not fit into that vision."
<more>

This is the third station in San Francisco that has fired Michael Savage.

And, hate to tell you, Levin is a more formidable adversary.

23. Mark Levin? I can't stand that whiny, nasal voice of his
And Levin a "formidable adversary"? Please.

His catch-phrase is "Get off the phone, you stupid dope". Witty.

And he's well known as the voice in Sean Hannity's earpiece, feeding Sean the "correct" responses and talking points of the day.

And we all know how "formidable" Hannity is.

7. Weiner is notoriously tempermental, and flies into rages at perceived 'slights' by management
I suppose his numbers tanking didn't help him, either.

If any of these right-wing radio hate-spewers stopped making money, their shows would be dropped the very next day.

It's always about the dinero.

39. It's the numbers...
Savage fell from #3 to #23 in the Bay Area market over the last year or so. Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann and local hosts on KGO beat him to death. KNEW can't afford that.

There is more to the story, though. This was his flagship station, which means he depends on their uplink to supply his show to other markets. This firing came very fast and with no notice, leaving him with no way to provide his show to other affiliates for a while. This means KNEW is probably in breach of their Contract, unless there is something else in the mix. They replaced him with an ill-considered, no-name fill-in that they can quickly fire when a better show comes along.

No one in the Bay Area is talking about the rest of the story.

One good bet: He won't be going back to KSFO or KGO any time soon.

8. I think he's been off KNUS in Denver, too
As I used to go around the dial I'd hear him on that station since it was right next to the lib station. It was late at night. I just checked their lineup for weekdays and the weekend - he's not listed.

Not that his replacement is way better. Any time I happen to hear it, it's always crazy talk. But Savage is out on his own special limb of madness.

I remember a while back Savage was talking about leaving San Fran. I didn't know he lived there. He talked about going to Hawaii. Maybe there was writing on the wall for some time.

15. A letter from then Michael Weiner to Allen Ginsberg.....
March 8, 1970

Dear Allen:

After speaking to you on the phone about how nice the black-white thing is in mountain villages in Fiji, I walked downstairs to the school courtyard, where a little–known black brother looks at me, takes my hand gently, we do some old–world Lower East Side finger tricks, and he peacefully kisses the back of my hand – I do the same for his hand. I told him about our brief talk, and he says, "I must have felt the vibes."

I thought they transfered him to their sister station, KSFO, across the hall. KSFO, a right leaning station, was a better fit for him and he actually thrived there for a few years.....

Did he work for and get fired from a third radio station I don't know about?

His schtick is to whine about days of yore, play crappy oldies & talk of his horrible meals he has where he takes his friggin dog with him. I've heard wait staff hate when he "blesses" their establishment with his ass attitude & yappy spoiled rotten dog.

I have a neighbor who listens to him-he asked last year how I liked his show. I said in front of his wife he was obviously manic depressive . He hated when she agreed with me...Ha!

He will fizzle a bit more but play him off piano kitty.

Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 01:13 AM by alp227
And on his website (michaelsavage.wnd.com), he says Bay Area listeners can pick up KSTE 650 from Sacramento to listen to The Savage Nation. From personal experience (I live in San Jose) KSTE and other Sac-area AM stations have static-y yet audible reception in the Bay. Besides, KNEW 910 still carries Glenn Beck, decided to replace Savage with another conservative show (John and Ken), and doesn't seem to be wanting to become liberal anytime soon. That's why we've got the liberal KKGN 960 to counter (not really balance though) KSFO and KNEW.

It's also the sister station to KFBK, the station that spawned Rush Limbaugh before he tagged the nationally syndicated gig. Both station feed a hungry red population in the Sacramento valley and Sierra foothills. Tom McClintock (CA-4) and Dan Lungren (CA-3) country.

He probably said something massively offensive. He often makes the other RW hate-mongers look tame. I used to listen to him and laugh because he was so ridiculous. I laughed at him because he was like a pathetic clown.
But ever since Obama was elected, he has become so dark and sinister in his comments (as have all the RW morons) that I can't even listen.

I hope the rest of the stations he's syndicated to kick him off, and he can sail off into the sunset on his big boat he's always bragging about on the show.

52. I read the article.
It's odd that this Dr. Breggin is defending Savage. He says that this is voluntary suppression by the station and would set a precedent for federal control over the media. Where has this guy been since radio was invented? Besides, I thought this was the "free market reacting to demand." He even uses the "they will come for you and me" line. I'm not a doctor, but damn, I can come up with something a bit less corny than that. He says Savage has 10 million listeners on 250 stations. That's around 3% of the population of the US. That would be only 10% of the 30% of morons that were up in arms over a black guy telling kids to stay in school. You know what that 3% is? A fringe. An idiotic lunatic fringe. Nobody sane will miss Savage. He's a syndicated sitcom that lost viewers and got pulled, not symbol of our freedoms being taken away by the "man".
