Obama says violence not answer, calls shooting of anti-abortion activist 'deplorable'
Associated Press

Last update: September 13, 2009 - 12:33 PM

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is calling the shooting of a Michigan anti-abortion activist "deplorable."

The White House on Sunday released a statement from the president on the shooting of James Pouillon. Obama says that "whichever side of a public debate you're on, violence is never the right answer."

The two-sentence statement comes after a Friday shooting spree that left Pouillon and business owner Mike Fuoss dead in the small Michigan city of Owosso. Pouillon was shot while standing across the street from a school, holding a sign that pictured the image of an aborted fetus.

A truck driver was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder later Friday.

2. Indeed. Bring the troops home.
Violence is not appropriate for Afghanistan or Iraq.

3. Seriously, what else could he possibly say?
I know Obama feels this way.

But even if he didn't wht else was he supposed to say.

"After years of violence and murder by loony religious wackos opposed to abortion, finally one brave American had enough and raptured one of the kooks yesterday. We salute this hero for his selfless action".

5. Was there any reason to release a comment at all?
And make implications about the case?

Sounds pretty gratuitous- sort of like the statement about "conscious clauses" the other night.

8. No, he should call you up before he releases a statement

9. Yes, 'cause silence could be taken as acceptance of the act.

10. So every petty event like this requires issuing an official comment?

That's not going to assuage the loonies and more than his express and unprompted support for "conscious clauses" will.

4. So the freaks are shooting each other now?
I would not put it past them to do such a thing and to think that it is otherwise is absurd.

WE do not advocate for such acts and WE do not support them either.

choice side does something like this. It hurts our cause. Puts us on their level. As much as I can't stand these sleazy guys with their fake fetus signs and threats, murdering them is wrong.

Edit to add: I have always believed that the left fringe is not as bad as the right, certainly not as violent. Just one of these incidents, though, and it starts looking like we're as bad.
