Tabula Rasa or how to sovle the Federal Budget Deficit and keep the Public Option
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 06:57 PM by grantcart
The debate on the Public Option has not happened.

Some people scream against it at town hall meetings.

Some legislators want to have a trigger to delay it.

But no serious intelligent argument has been advanced that is against it. They may try and say that the government is getting too big but it is not taking the specific elements of the plan on directly.

So all that is against the Public Option is that its just "too much" and mush brained people from Lieberman to Feinstein say "well we just don't have the funds for it, better to look at it after the recovery when we don't have so many other pressing issues". Guess what - next year and every year after that we will have pressing issues.

Again this is not an argument against the Public Option, just when to start a Public Option. (Also the impact on the budget isn' going to be effected by the Public Option but by the subsidies. The Public Option will result in reduced need in the future for subsidies or that the subsidies in hand will get a bigger bang for the buck.

But for all of the deficit hawks who are worried about a growing deficit here is your simple solution:

Fine, use the Tabula Rasa (The Blank Slate).

We are now going to do a federal budget.

Start with a blank piece of paper.

First Item - Health Care subsidies and the Public Option.

Now proceed with everything else you want the federal government. If you are over budget and creating a deficit that we can't handle start cancelling some other programs. Obviously expensive jets that will never be used because we now have missles and drones would be an excellent place to start.

See health care is funded and everything else fits.
