WaPo: 94% Dems, 73% Ind., 59% Repubs support public option for those who can't get private insurance
Broad majorities across party lines (76 percent overall) say they would support a public option if it were limited only to those who, "cannot get health insurance from a private insurer." Support for that type of public option includes 94 percent of Democrats, 73 percent of independents and 59 percent of Republicans.

1. Yet from the way the MSM lavishes attention on the nutjob fringe,
you'd think THEY were the representative "voice of the people".

7. Well the insurance companies would love that, wouldn't they? Socialized risk, privatized gain.
It's cherry picking with whipped cream and another cherry on top.

Now, if young and healthy people were paying into the public program and keeping it solvent, that would cut into the ins. co. profits and we can't have that, can we?

8. It's support, that's all that matters from a perception standpoint.
Use it to make the public option strong, optional and evolving, which is what it current is.

9. In other words, the vast majority of the country supports a public option.
However, the M$M spins it like half the country doesn't want it. :eyes:

Those drug and insurance ads must pay well....

Everyone should have easy, instant access at low affordable subsidized rates

15. Yep. The only ones elligible are the poor
who already have Medicaid, and the very sick who will be a financial burden on the plan. It is salable but not especially serviceable.

14. How about for us who are being gouged by private insurers?
frankly, otherwise it's just a welfare program, which duplicates what Medicaid already does, and adds in people who can afford private coverage, but are too expensive for the profiteers, and will thus put a major strain on the program's finances. Seriesly, it was a great speech, but the plan is not very good.

16. I guess that is what the media means when they say the country is split
76% of Americans

94% Democrats

73% of Independents

59% of Republicans

I guess that counts for public opinion being split.

17. Sounds like majority support for PO in all categories
including a slight majority among Republicans. I guess that means we need to definitely "take it off the table" as Snowe suggested.
