6. can you provide link?
as article says...troops sent over for "training" will be in combat as Afghan troops need the experience...our "training" troops will be in harm's way. Kerry is a hero still...

10. Just going by his presser with Harper today
He was making sure he made it clear he hadn't even signaled he was leaning towards sending more. He appeared to really want to send the message for people not to assume he would get behind this.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled the plug on all this.

13. Not sure about "pulling the plug", but his words like he was concerned
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 08:08 AM by karynnj
that before making that decision, he had to be absolutely sure the policy and strategy was right. (Words that sound incredibly like what Kerry has been saying on both wars since forever. As that position is pure common sense, it is possibly coincidence that they are using nearly the same words.)

I would bet that he will review the Kerry hearings. Their value is that they are pulling together experts advocating a variety of actions. The Senators are doing a great job pushing them to all speak about the issues with all the options. There is another hearing at 9:30 am today - here is link that will have it - http://foreign.senate.gov/Flashtest.html Later, it and the statements are usually on the SFRC website - http://foreign.senate.gov/hearings/2009/hrg090917a.html

7. The issue is that we either send more troops or pull everyone out
The troops we already have in Afghanistan are overstretched and aren't enough to do anything, so we either escalate the war to Vietnam levels, or we get all of our troops out of harm's way. No matter what we do, the US will not win in Afghanistan, so let's save some lives and bring our troops home ASAP.

8. I do not think he will send more.
This is just a hunch on my part. He is a very smart man and deep inside he knows Afghanistan is a losing proposition.
