11. No, it didn't bother the Russians at all. Just pissed them off. |
|
Just what we needed -- more nations pissed at us.

16. The sea-based Aegis system works, and works well. |
|
That's why Obama is going ahead with it.
He's cancelling the plan to put land-based radars and interceptors in former Warsaw Pact countries, not the concept of missile defense in general.

6. Cries of "Terra! Terra! Terra!" don't work on people who comprehend Reagan's "Star Wars". |
|
It was science fiction/fantasy when St. Ronnie first proposed it nearly thirty years ago, and thirty years on, with trillions of government dollars spent on R&D for weapons that will never work or are too expensive to lose in battle, it's still a fiction.
These imaginary and expensive weapons programs are being curtailed or cut left and right. Further, most Dems and all liberals want our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq along with an end to wars of aggression, wars for oil and every other attack not preceded by a direct attack on the U.S..
The defense hawks can wail about terrorism until they turn purple, but who among us doesn't know that 9/11 could have been prevented by the enforcement of our existing laws (especially border control and immigration) and simply listening to the CIA analysts, FBI agents, citizens and others who were screaming for attention prior to the attacks? What is it about "THEY ARE HERE!" that failed to grab BushCo*'s attention?
The Democrats are in control now, and if the defense industry wants to survive, it's got to lower earnings expectations and diversify. A business model based on guns is a loser in this political climate. However, if they begin building wind/water generators, solar panels and consumer goods - here in the U.S. - they could thrive, albeit, without the outrageous returns they're used to.
The big defense contractors are in possession of advanced technologies that could be turned away from the development of killing machines to the benefit of the nation. Why not? WE paid for it. It's time to turn the trillions invested in the R&D of vaporware to the benefit of the people.
It's time for the MIC to get off the government tit and start working for a living.

13. The reality of the situation is that the "shield" was far more likely to |
|
set up a situation where the possibility of missles raining down was actually enhanced. It was viewed as a threat by the Russians. The thing that kept them from being more aggressive is the fact they know it doesn't work. The billions tossed into that fire-pit of waste could have fed half the world for a year...:(

Was building missiles in Cuba? There is a reason Russia didn't like it. You can't blame them.

15. This is the system that Obama is putting into place. |
|
http://www.break.com/usercontent/2008/2/US-shoots-down-satellite-457226.htmlThey can intercept the missiles that Iran has. Stopping the Russians or any other nations MIRV's to my knowledge is still not a possibility.
