John Thune scares me. Should he?
I was sitting around thinking about the Repub's problems with leadership right now and how thin the field is for them for 2012. Then I started remembering back to how many viable candidates came out of nowhere to sweep into the nomination and often the election victory.

Admittedly, I'm leaning heavily on recent DEMOCRATIC cases of Clinton and Obama who both were not on anyone's radar much before their first big presidential runs (which they won).

I dismiss Romney because he's a Mormon and the Repubes obviously have a problem with anyone who's not a Christian. Plus he's not governing anything right now. Kind of out of the loop. ANd just a little creepy and lacking. Palin? I laugh. Same with guys like Huckabee. Kantor's Jewish so there you go.

But Thune is the picture of moderation, telegenic, rather young.....does he not have the charisma? When I saw a piece with him being interviewed today it just made me a wee bit nervous. Of course, all of this presumes Obama hasn't unjammed some of the political wheels and gotten significant progress with economy, etc.

If Obama is successful in several of his large intitiatives...then in my book "That's all she wrote" for 2012. But 2016 is still a possibility for that Thune guy (who I hate because he was the beneficiary of Repubes going after our majority leader which they're also going to be doin big time against Reid).

1. The GOP won't nominate Thune in 2012--no way.
No nationwide following to readily build up infrastructure--unlike Romney or Palin--not even nationwide visibility. Being from South Dakota, an easy win for the Republicans in presidential races, and a state with only three electoral votes, he'd be damned lucky to get the vice presidential nod.
