President Obama to be first president to appear on Univision’s Sunday public affairs show
Obama to be first president to appear on Univision’s Sunday public affairs show, Al Punto.
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/09/18/obama-al-punto/

This weekend, President Obama will be appearing on five Sunday morning talk shows, including CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, CNN’s State of the Union, and ABC’s This Week. However, he is passing over Fox News Sunday in favor of Univision’s Al Punto. While other presidents have appeared on Univision, Marcy Wheeler notes that this is the first time a president will be on Al Punto:

As such, it seems to me, it ought to focus some attention on Al Punto’s role in the Sunday line-up. And, as it turns out, the White House can justify blowing off Fox for Univision not just to reach out to Latinos rather than white racists. According to Univision’s corporate communications, Al Punto (531,000) does better than FNS (417,000) in the all-important 18-49 demographic (and has done so for the last 10 months), and it often beats CBS’ Face the Nation in that demo as well.

Here are the five shows on which Obama will appear:

2. He took 66% of the Hispanic vote in 2008
Me thinks Rahm and Axelrod are aiming to get that number up to 70%-75% next time.

5. Made we laugh to hear the wingnuts telling me to be concerned about overexposure

They're wetting their pants over his blanketing the airwaves this Sunday morning. And leaving Faux out in the cold while including Univision in the tent is perfect.

11. Is that a wish or is it true? I am ignorant about this...I admit
I'll admit, I took two courses in grad school to get some basic Spanish down, to be able to deal with a growing population in New England. I'm bi-lingual French/English, and have about as much German language training as Spanish language. I know the Latino-American culture better than the German culture, (in Europe) because I have spent more time with men and women and children whose first language is Spanish, (living in the USA or Mexico) than any other non-monolingual group.

I hardly ever watch Univision, but I understand about 1/4 of what is said in major newscasts, can guess the rest by context, and guessing.

So who watches Univision? Will he speak in English with over-voice, or with subtitles? How does it work?

I am willing to bet there are more Univision watchers in the USA than up-tight white and arrogant paranoid other people who suck at the Fox tits.

10. It'll get Latinos that didn't vote last time to vote next time
Increased Latino voter turnout is the thing that will ensure a longterm Democratic majority and capture of states like Texas.

16. You must live in Northern Maine, Canada, or some place in the mid-west
where you don't get cable TV, or know about how many people there now are in the USA whose native language is Spanish.

No insult intended, but have you been keeping up with America for the last 20 years?
