3. I know why she's doing it - and it's pure politics.
Obviously, the Senator is trying to position herself as a "sensible moderate" as she looks toward re-election in 2012. Shame too. I had such high hopes for her in 2006.

7. and it's pointless
The deep red parts of the state won't vote for her. The best way for a Democrat to win statewide in MO is to run up huge numbers in the cities and poach a few moderate votes here and there. These antics of hers are going to end up hurting her turnout in heavily Democratic wards, and she can't poach enough moderates to make up for that loss. I worked on her campaigns for both Governor and US Senate and I never for one second thought she'd end up as such an appalling Conservadem.

8. You're right. I recall election night in 2006.
McCaskill was down and out to asshat Talent until St. Louis came in like a madman. And then we waited for Webb in VA and Tester in MT. Good times.

At any rate, you are right on the electoral dynamics of MO...but it shouldn't matter anyway. She needs to do the right thing.

13. Yup,
and I know Democrats around the state have pleaded with her to stop and realize those people didn't and won't vote for her.

She seems to forget, hers was a narrow win against Talent, who received money from both Abramoff & DeLay and supported a all out ban on stem-cell research, so more people were motivated to get out and vote.

4. jefferson_dem - doesn't reconciliation have a time limit?

If they are going to ram it through by means of a budget reconciliation doesn't that have to be done by OCT?

10. Exactly my point

You posted a couple of stories about Senators saying we got to slow it down - we have less than a month to get this passed.

12. I wonder how many other 'centrist' Democrats share her views
and that is what we should be concerned about.

15. The blue dog strategy is to slow it down.
Ben Nelson: "marathon, not a sprint" and now this... I'd almost be surprised if we have anything by Christmas.

"Policy

Sen McCaskill on twitter:

Still hope we can get some public OPTION or non profit coop. Also must make sure private can compete so gov doesn't swallow competition.

When did preserving insurance companies who have abused customers become a policy objective?"
