Here is a question I have been meant to ask DUers..
and anyone else who would care to answer. I listen to the rightwing and their main mantra is they hate government. We don't need government you all know their talking points. So my question is what is government for?

Why do we need government and how are we suppose to run a country if we don't have government?

Another problem I have with these rightwingers is that everytime some questions them about the presidents' policies they say he is not doing what the people want. I want to know what in the hell do they want him to do they seem to think that he should be doing what republicons do and follow their policies did they think this was a joke and Obama would just go into office and give out a bunch of tax cuts and subsidies to repubs.

Do they really think the President should follow what they want if that is the case what in the hell did we vote for I guess we should have not voted and let them keep on going along, I wonder where the country would be now,and these stupid ass people didn't know it was being destroyed throughout the past eight years.

I notice that everytime a bill comes up the repubs add on amendments and a bunch of tax cuts and they always say that the tax cuts are for small business how many tax cuts do they need a lot of these business are already charging us more than what most of their goods are worth. They always add things and by the end when its time to sign the bill they are no where to be found and they usually vote against the bill knowing it will pass after they have put in the loopholes really for themselves friends and family because they make the laws and they know how to steal from the government they are professional thieves.

When they leave office most of the time they have set up everything for their SMALL business ventures and have already told their friends where to go and how to steal from the government but, these are the same people who will throw a damn fit if they think that someone who really is in need is able to obtain a crust of bread of a decent place to sleep.

This is when the republicons make it their duty to go in there and get those laws changed,. Now, for these protestors who claim they want their country back they need to go back in history and find out where they lost it because what they thought was their country was gone a long, long, time ago.

1. Government is for doing things that are too big/hard/ complicated/expensive...

to be practically done individually, and which are of collective utility.

EDIT: With that kind of power, history has demonstrated that government's encroachment on people's liberties can be an issue. Thus we have things like the Constitution, which (theoretically) places severe limits on what our government can do.

2. Republicans like government just fine
when it can be used to control women's reproductive behavior, who can marry whom, whose god is worshipped, what drugs can be used to treat pain, and when people can let a family member die. They *don't* like government when it attempts to regulate economic issues, protect individuals from discrimination or economic oppression, or provide assistance to people who don't "deserve" it, i.e., the poor and the non-white. Yes, they are hypocrites.

6. Exactly. When it benefits them, they like it fine
When it benefits the people they're accustomed to trampling on, the ones you listed, then all the sudden they hate government.

4. Government exists to prop up corporate America.
What they mean is that they're against government for the people.

5. But don't you see? Corporations!
Corporations are the answer! We should all trust massive, unregulated multinational conglomerated corporations to run every industry in the country--and we should just go about our daily lives and act like good little morons and not worry.

Now shush--I'm watching "American Idol".

*You have just gotten a glimpse into the mind of Joe and Josephine Republican.
