Four public option admendments offered to Baucus bill
The Rockefeller ones are the stronger #187 for example is taken directly from HR 3200, but there is no excuse for them to not adopt one. So Baucus, Conrad, etc have a choice stand with the GOP or the rest of their party.

#186
Rockefeller C6
Consumers Health Care Act (S.1278), as modified

#187
Rockefeller C7
Establishment and administration of a public health insurance option as an exchange-qualified health benefits plan

#260
Schumer C1
Level the playing field public option

#261
Schumer/ Cantwell C2
Public option as passed by HELP Committee

4. Baucus Had His Chance For A Bipartisan Bill, And The GOP Left Him At The Alter...
...so, its time to pass a public option. The fact that not a single Republican supported the bill that they helped craft just exposes the fact that they aren't going to vote for any health care reform. If Jesus showed up, and the health care plan consisted of letting Jesus lay his hands on the sick, and resurrecting the dead, the GOP would still vote against it on the ground that so many healthy food is actually a type of tax, since they will be using publicly funded services like roads.

6. That's the irony of the situation
If the GOP really wanted to stop the public option from passing, they would have all endorsed and co-sponsored the Baucus bill. By opposing even this abomination of a corporate give away, they have basically insured that a public option bill will pass the congress and be signed by President Obama. Mind you, I'm sure some of them still fully believe they can stop any health care reform bill from passing, the same way they thought there was no chance Obama would win the election despite the polls.

P.S. I'm not saying that the GOP secretly supports the public option, just that they are missing the forest for the trees.

P.P.S. Although it might be worth running some ads against Repubs up for election in 2010 along the lines of, "Sen. Jerkoff (R) says he opposed "Government Run Healthcare" (tm), but when he had a chance to sign onto the Baucus bill and pull one over on the liberals, he sat in a corner cowering in the fetal position while sucking his thumb and allowed the Public Option to pass."
