Sounds like Obama may be thinking of ending this Afghanistan nonsense
And the military is starting to use their media connections. It started with the Washington Post piece today. Look for unnamed military sources all of a sudden to start calling Obama weak and against the troops, He's not a leader, has no resolve, etc.....

You thought the Healthcare fight was tough. Wait until the military starts bitching about him not just doing what they want him to do.

1. The Pentagon civilian staff is chock full of Cheneyite holdovers
Little pissant neo-cons who are protected by the Pendleton Act and can't be fired. They can be expected to do this kind of bullshit when they don't get their way.

3. Straussian are prevalent everywhere in positions of power

They had their day, now the fish rots from the head down. The Air Force is the classic case in point; Straussians and Fundamentalists enjoying a symbiotic relationship. Hermann Göring was smiling; would have, could have, should have been.

2. How so?
President Obama wants to increase troops as well. Or did this change for some reason I'm not aware of? According to Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal he wants to increase troops in Afghanistan within the next year. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/20/AR2009092002920.html">The Washington Post

The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan warns in an urgent, confidential assessment of the war that he needs more forces within the next year and bluntly states that without them, the eight-year conflict "will likely result in failure," according to a copy of the 66-page document obtained by The Washington Post.

Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal says emphatically: "Failure to gain the initiative and reverse insurgent momentum in the near-term (next 12 months) -- while Afghan security capacity matures -- risks an outcome where defeating the insurgency is no longer possible."

5. Where are you getting that Obama wants to increase troops in Afghanistan?
Obama has always been tentative about increasing troops. He wants Bin Laden but he's also not about to spend more money on a war that he could spend in the country---he's slightly more protectionist than not. I'd say he'd sooner get out than stay in.

7. Sometimes you have to stand up to the darkness to make it go into retreat...

but it'll always be there. I'ts a life long battle of the good and the bad, and to put in in check you have act a little ugly. The good, the bad and the ugly we've seen it all this year. The President has had to put a lot of factors into sonsideration wiht the war, so I've mainly stayed away from it.
