"How come the WH hasn't exerted (or threatened) Paterson-like pressure on members of Congress supposedly impeding his health care bill?

1. I'm sure that they will, now that the bill is almost complete
On the other hand, incumbents in Congress are far less vulnerable than Paterson, who would be the least popular governor in the country if it wasn't for Sanford.

9. Exactly, Obama plays very well behind the scenes.

We never knew that he had Clinton wrapped up as Secretary of State long before the convention, for example.

He probably also put pressure on Edwards that caused him to drop out before Super Tuesday. I wonder what that "pressure"(cough... illegitimate baby... cough...) was? Of course, we never knew any of this and fretted away about him during the primaries as not standing firm or whatever.

Further back - when he won his Senate seat, the race was dead even, then all the tawdry stuff came out about Jack Ryan. Ryan dropped out, and Obama walked to victory. Imagine that.

I guarantee you he's applying a lot of pressure behind the scenes to a lot of people, he's just not doing it in public.

I just hope his priorities (i.e. public health care) are in the right place.

4. The pressure on Patterson doesn't seem to be very effective.
At least not so far.

7. How many of these potential targets have the same ability to be pressured like that?
How many are floundering in their polls with a legit challenger that is much more popular?

Apples to oranges and poorly thought out.
