Palin is relevant, hero to some
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 06:29 AM by pkz
There is only one reason the ex-VP candidate, Govquitter, Palin is relevant now....
She started all this sh*t, she owns it.
Nothing to be proud of, a defamer of the first degree.
Oh, the rumors, the talk was always waiting, just waiting for a voice to make them seem legitimate, a squawk box on the national stage.

SP singlehandedly turned our politics to a new uglier side with her "pals around with terrorists" fearmongering rhetoric.

I live in northcentral WV and all my life there has never been a racial problem. My area is populated by hard working coal mining families. Italian, Polish, Russian and Black have always worked hard together, worshipped together, all have at one time or another been spit upon by backward thinking mountain folk, like Scot-Irish is the end all beat all ;)
Even during the 60s and early 70s when the busloads of instigators came down from Pittsburgh to fire up the race thing, our community would have none of it.
Now....NOW....a whole community has been spray painted with racial slurs.
I blame only one person for this kind of thinking, the one that stood on a stage, bellowing her hate, anger and giving the permission to act out what was always better left unsaid, or even unthinkable.
My rant.

1. Palin carries the contagion of Republicanism which in its advanced stages
is characterized by a soulless disregard for the needs of others.

You see it on Wall Street, K Street, in John Cornyn's office, in Jim Inhofe's voting record, all over the mainstream media, and so forth.

And it was manifest before Sarah Palin ever took office in Alaska and unfortunately continues to run its course in the aftermath of her resignation.

She's a hideous symptom of the condition but not its genesis.

2. Pray tell what is "revelent"? I like to revel sometimes.

I am sure Sarah and Tawd like to revel in the glory that is their monumental FAIL too.

3. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday (homemade)
It was the Jesus Fish with the word PALIN inside and the mouth open as if to swallow the Obama logo.

I laughed to think that the VP candidate was more important to many on the right than the top of the ticket.

4. My hope is that it fires up decent American's to push back and marginalize the lunatics...

We just need to make sure all the bat-shit crazy stuff is taped and put up on the web...marginalize them with exposure. It worked to bring down the Klan (read about it in Freakonmics).

5. When I heard Palin was going to speak in Hong Kong about "economics" I gasp!
Reported in the UK News:

Sarah Palin heads to Hong Kong for major speech
Tuesday, 22, Sep 2009 12:00
By Richard James.

http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/world/americas/sarah-palin-heads-to-hong-kong-for-major-speech-$1328866.htm

Quote:

"Mrs Palin is due to address around 1,000 international investors at the 16th CLSA Investor's Forum and will discuss economics, governance and the current political situation in the US."

.......

WTF is that? They are kidding right? No this is true! Oh my God, and those people think she is representing the US?

Most of us in the US take her at her face value, which is less then a glass half full, but now she is being given a world stage to tout her ignorance - go figure!

:silly:

6. The same company had psychics speak one year as a joke.
It's a major (perhaps the major) East Asian brokerage firm, but they show a certain whimsicality in their choice of keynoters. (Another year they had anime artists in to draw caricatures.) The company has explained that they think of presenters like these, and Palin, as essentially "entertainers".

Well, I hope they are "entertained" by a witless, clueless American talking to them on their own subject of expertise.

9. Here's the info.
Hong Kong Broker Pulling A "Borat" On Sarah Palin by Vincent Fernando
(The Business Insider, September 1, 2009)

Hopefully Sarah Palin realizes she's been invited to Hong Kong almost certainly as a practical joke.

CLSA, the Asia-focused broker who invited Mrs. Palin as keynote speaker for an Asian investment conference, is well known for their cheeky takes on investment research.

In the past, they've polled Asian fortune tellers for index targets, hired anime cartoonists to draw Japanese research, and generally love to push the boundaries between entertainment and analysis. They are a real research firm, it's just that they love to sprinkle in some hilarity every now and then as a smart marketing gimmick.

Sarah Palin is this year's big laugh for them. Her invitation as keynote speaker in Hong Kong is so ridiculous that its absurdity can't be accidental.

12. No worries. The only people in the world who think she's anything but an idiot
and a total bimbo, are a few moranic Americans.

The rest of the world is a whole lot more intelligent.

10. I agree with the other poster who
said she's a symptom not the genesis. Yes, she did stir them up but she is hardly the only one. Nor is she even the biggest offender.

What I'm struggling with in your post is the idea that there were never any race issues in West Virginia. I have family in West Virginia, my mother grew up there, my niece and two of my brothers in law are black - trust me - West Virginia isn't utopia of racial harmony.

And who pray tell, were these "busloads of instigators who came from Pittsburgh to fire up the race thing?" Are you talking about the Freedom Riders? Civil Rights activists?

I'm glad your community passed the test back then, I'm sorry they're failing it now. I don't think you can blame that on Sarah Palin. Do you believe you can stir up racial hatred where no racial hatred exists?
