Next time a right winger compares Obama with Hitler, keep these minor facts in mind:
Hitler is elected Chancellor in January ’33. The very next month the Reichstag is burned down. The very next month the “Enabling Act” makes him virtual dictator of Germany after only 3 months in office. That very month he declares all political parties other than the Nazis illegal, among the banned political parties were the socialist and communist parties. Thus, in only 3 months from his election the democracy has been completely overthrown and all dissent completely stifled. In May trade unions and active socialists are banned along with all strikes. By October Hitler has tripled the size of Germany’s standing army thus breaking the international treaty of Versailles. Yes my right wing know nothings, this is what Hitler achieved in ten months. Yea, that’s right, keep making yourselves look ignorant. In ten little months, where we are right now in Obama’s presidency, how do these two men compare? You need to explain a little more.

Ps.: compare Mein Kamph with any Obama's books. You’ll quickly understand the difference between the two. (has even the right wing suggested that Obama will be negating all 2010 elections where Republicans win?).

1. Yes, they really are that ignorant.
History is nothing but useless facts for them.

4. No history is making up facts to enable them to keep their belief system
intact. They cherry pick everything apart so they keep with ideals that back their beliefs and toss out everything that calls their beliefs into question. In their minds they are the oppressed, the way they freely gave up their rights when * said he was going to protect them from the boogiemen, yet they are now worried about the rights they had already gave away, the stupidity runs that deep. I guess they were under the impression that if republicons lost elections that the party in charge would kindly give them back the rights they so willingly gave away. More stupidity from the right.

2. Hitler was never elected to any governmental office....
the only election in which he ran, he lost (for President). He was appointed Chancellor by Von Hindenburg. I don't know why this myth persists.

On the 29th, a false rumor circulated that Schleicher was about to arrest Hindenburg and stage a military takeover of the government. When Hindenburg heard of this, it ended his hesitation. He decided to appoint Adolf Hitler as the next Chancellor of Germany.

However, a last minute objection by conservative leader, Alfred Hugenberg, nearly ruined everything. On January 30, while President Hindenburg waited in the other room to give Hitler the chancellorship, Hugenberg held up everything by arguing with the Nazis over Hitler's demand for new elections. He was persuaded by Hitler to back down, or at least let Hindenburg decide. With that settled they all headed into the president's office.

Around noon on January 30, 1933, a new chapter in German history began as a teary-eyed Adolf Hitler emerged from the presidential palace as Chancellor of the German Nation. Surrounded by admirers, he got into his car and was driven down the street lined with cheering citizens.

"We've done it! We've done it!" - a jubilant Adolf Hitler exclaimed.

6. Your overall message is that one actually needs to address that ridiculous assertion.
But you're wrong. The idea is too silly to even acknowledge. People who can't even distinguish right from left are way beyond the point where there's any use in talking to them.

7. Not really...
the reason I routinely correct it is because RWers cite it when they try to make the argument that "democracy is bad because it elected Hitler to power".

5. Well that was because he didn't have any Blue Dogs to slow him down. :-)
But your attempt at injecting sound thinking and reason into the discussion is very noble .... albiet futile.

11. FACTS! who cares about those?
what is their relevance to this debate?

sorry, but these people cannot be reasoned with. You could say that Obama is a fervent supporter of the earth revolving around the sun and they would say, no, in fact the earth is the centre of the universe.

12. does anyone know the genesis of this Hitler and Nazi talk vis-a-vis Obama . . .
it seems ridiculous on its face to me, and I can't imagine how stupid one has to be to buy into this horseshit . . . obviously someone (or some ones) is behind this, but since I don't listen to right wing commentators, I have no idea who . . . can anyone enlighten me? . . . thanks . . .

At least, that is certainly what they were trying to do.
