Obama to world: Don't expect America to fix it all
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090923/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama

NEW YORK – Seizing a chance to challenge the world, President Barack Obama says the global community is failing its people and fixing that is not "solely America's endeavor."

"Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone," Obama said in a passage of the speech he was delivering Wednesday to the United Nations General Assembly.

The White House released excerpts in advance that carried a remarkably blunt tone.

in "getting a grip" of banking big-wigs gaming the system with enormous bonuses being paid to them on the basis of their generation of short-term profits, followed by much larger long-term losses; such as have brought the world to the brink of economic collapse. Indeed, sometimes enormous bonuses on the "strength" of heavy losses, even the bankruptcy of their companies.

Is this a case, I wonder, of the best form of defence is attack, or does it relate to genuine cases of the rest of the world dragging their feet?
