Who thinks Obama' delivery was a little flat compared to his own lofty standards.. |
|
I was a little underwhelmed by the delivery.

1. I thought he did great |
|
I believe that those imperfections are not a reason to walk away from this institution – they are a calling to redouble our efforts. The United Nations can either be a place where we bicker about outdated grievances, or forge common ground; a place where we focus on what drives us apart, or what brings us together; a place where we indulge tyranny, or a source of moral authority. In short, the United Nations can be an institution that is disconnected from what matters in the lives of our citizens, or it can be indispensable in advancing the interests of the people we serve.
We have reached a pivotal moment. The United States stands ready to begin a new chapter of international cooperation – one that recognizes the rights and responsibilities of all nations. With confidence in our cause, and with a commitment to our values, we call on all nations to join us in building the future that our people deserve. Thank you.

2. I think it was a more serious tone and appropriate for the setting. In our |
|
words, he was smokin' in a dignified way. Translation takes a while in this setting.

4. This was not a political rally. |
|
This was the President serving as Chief Diplomat, representing our nation to the world. He made us proud.

5. His delivery was as awesome as usual ..... |
|
.... it's the lack of applause that's throwing you off. The UN is simply NOT going to look or sound like a AFL-CIO rally. Read the speech yourself, it was one of his best. I think I liked it better than the Morocco speech. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8667226&mesg_id=8667335

6. Yeah, I was really bummed out by the lack of pyrotechnics. |
|
;)
I agree with the above poster who noted that it was appropriate for the UN.

12. And why didn't he get Springsteen to open for him? |
|
;-)
I agree also. The UN isn't the teevee watching Americans ready to lap up some soundbites.

7. Many of the leaders have a little device in their ear and they are listening |
|
to someone else translate the conversation. AND because they may not understand English, they may not get a true sense of the oratory. Better to keep it even and easier for the translators.

8. I thought he was great. I think the UN did, too, judging by the |
|
repeated applause. See how much 'love' Khaddafy gets.

11. Must be the standards that you hold..... |
|
and you may be right that Obama has spoiled you.
I suggest that you start comparing him to others as opposed to you comparing him to himself; that might serve you better.....otherwise, he will spoil you for any other speaker for all of eternity when one day he is no longer the one holding down the national/global microphone.

13. I'm underwhelmed by that green marble background that casts a |

greenish hue on anyone standing in front it.
POTUS did a great job, even though he looked green.

15. I do wish he'd speak a little more slowly and not swallow the last syllable of |
|
so many words. I know he's got a casual style, but big speeches work better with a little bit of homiletics.

16. He was speaking at the UN, not at a political fundraiser. |
|
But, yeah, I was kinda disappointed he didn't finish with setting his guitar on fire, like he usually does.
