Roy Blunt called the President a monkey.
Not in so many words, but we all know what he was thinking--and we also know that the Republicans wouldn't hesitate to put it just as bluntly if there were some equivalent joke.

So that should be our message. No "maybe," no context, no equivocation. Roy Blunt went to a conservative conference, called the President a monkey, and everybody cheered. Every single Republican needs to be asked whether they support Blunt calling the President a monkey.

2. I rec'd it out of curiosity and it was still less than zero

So I can't believe that it's just because it was a news story for a couple of days now. Someone doesn't want it to stay in the spotlight. I sure do.

So we give it a kick and accomplish pretty much the same thing.
:kick:

3. Well it could be because there is no link. As it stands now your thread deserves an unrec.

Where is the link to the statement?
Where is the actual statement in quotes?

9. This is worth posting?
Crap like this (and much worse) goes on all the time from both sides. Since LBJ, has any president actually gotten respect or even civility from the opposition party? This is the way the game is played and it shouldn't raise eyebrows.

18. Yes, it is worth posting. As a matter of fact it is worth posting better than it was posted.
It it was posted better no doubt it would have shot to the GP in a heartbeat.

20. Yeah it is worth posting but it ought to be posted with links.
When our side does something like this there is a huge Korpmedia Orkestrated Poutrage followed by apologies and punishment, for example Van Jones. When their side does it: *crickets*.

11. I think he chose a very bad parable to use, but I can't say withcertainty that Blount
was comparing President Obama to a monkey. There has been so much discussion of racism lately that I believe we have all become very sensitive to what might or might not be a racist remark.

I'm not trying to say that racism doesn't exist or that racist comments have not been made, but in this case, I think Blount just made a very stupid remark without thinking it through for negative connotations. YMMV.

12. He probably would have chosen a different story if Obama was not president
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 01:35 PM by izzybeans
but he referred to democrats as monkeys.

This story has two troubling elements, the first one racial, the second one is that he paralleled the GOP to imperial agents of Britain in India playing golf on stolen land.

One part racist the other part authoritarian.

16. Roy thought he was being slick and wanted to see if he'd get away with it or...
start a whole thing about people being to sensitive about race.

Either way he was being a racist asshole in this case.

21. After seeing this evidence
I believe that Blunt didn't mean it in the way that it came off.
We would be wrong to believe otherwise.
He is my Congressman (unfortunately) and I want him gone, but this is bullshit to pursue.

Thats a stretch of interpretive partisanship.

If anything, he called the voters monkeys, because we are the ones running onto the green, changing up the game.

Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 08:56 PM by xultar
it needs to be a good post. Good posts are clear and make sense. Good posts also provide links especially when referring to something someone said.

B. Roy has told this story before apparently, so if you are gonna bust a nut because you got a unrec make sure that you have your shit right from the get. DUers are pretty smart and they'll unrec bullshit and stop it from going to the GP if it makes us look stupid as a online community.

That is all, class dismissed.
