Sarah Palin is now an international idiot

Delegates walk out of Palin’s first international speech.

Sarah Palin made her international debut today in a closed-door speech at the CLSA Investors’ Forum in Hong Kong. AFP reports that Palin’s speech, which touched on issues like international terrorism and the U.S. debt, “divided” the audience and even prompted a few delegates to leave in disgust:

Former US vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin divided an international audience of financial big-hitters at her first speech outside North America on Wednesday with some leaving in disgust. <...>

Some listeners praised her forthright views on government social and economic intervention but others walked out early citing boredom or disgust. <...>

A US delegate leaving early with a colleague said: “it was awful, we couldn’t stand it any longer.”

Melvin Goodé, a property consultant who attended Palin’s speech, was interviewed about Palin’s speech by the Wall Street Journal. When asked how he thought she did, he “shrugged his shoulders… said that she generally did all right, given that she ‘wasn’t supposed to know anything about the continent.’”

3. Maybe they walked out because they couldn't understand a word she said

and they thought they could use the time more judiciously: you know, like taking bathroom breaks or grabbing some coffee.

5. What on earth possessed them to hire her as a speaker? It's not like she has
any weight with the government, and it's not like she really understands WTF is going on, financially.

6. That clinches it. She'll be President someday. I feel it in my bones.
I'm kidding. . . kinda, sorta.

Nobody thought Nixon or Reagan could have a comeback either, but they did.

7. Problem is
Hongkees understand English (it used to be a British colony after all). Apparently they know it better than Palin does.

9. Actually, not all Hong Kong residents understand English
In fact, the majority of them speak Chinese. I was just over there a couple of months ago and encountered many people who did not speak any English. And yet, they still understand English better than Palin.

... it seems that the NYT failed to report this in their article from today's front page (at least the last time I checked).

Just like George W. Bush would do.

13. exactly. that is why the "no press" or she will have to
"change her speech" rule was in effect. she wouldn't be able to coherently answer any questions on what she just spewed.

15. You get my recommendation for your thread title alone (of course, the content
justifies it, too, obviously). : )

What I don't understand is (hearing/seeing on the news a short while ago) that she dissed the US overseas and no one seems to have a problem with that.

Wasn't someone else massively bashed for doing just that not too long ago? Was it Hillary Clinton? Her name pops in my head first, but I could certainly be wrong. I know someone suffered a great deal of ire over US-negative statements in a speech while in another country, something that seems to be considered verboten and just not done...

Personally, I wouldn't have attended knowing she was the speaker - not because I disagree with her politics and positions (which I do) but because she's just incurably dumb, and it would be a waste of my time. Even in the fuzzy camera-phone video clip proves she hasn't a clue. I can't imagine sitting through 90 minutes of that. I'm no a financial whiz or investor, but I was already disgusted that she's considered a politician, much less listened to.

Markos Moulitsas said it best, calling Palin "extremely, extremely lazy". Her continued sense that she's credible while too lazy to learn anything or do her homework only serves to clarify her vapidity as indisputable. She's good at one thing: being a self-serving, self-interested, greedy, grifter and con woman. Oh, and she can wink. So that's two things she can do. The woman can't even speak or write a coherent sentence!!! (sheesh....)

19. Oh, believe me, she's been an international joke for a long time
Our Canadian CBC has realized that fact ever since her VP run.

She's been a standard-bearer for RW looniness ever since.

"Sarah Palin" is now shorthand for "American nutcases"
