Schilling passes on Senate bid
If there were any doubt, former Red Sox great Curt Schilling seems to have definitely ruled out a run for the US Senate seat in Massachusetts.

He had been encouraged to seek the Republican nomination in December by Senator John McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee whom Schilling stumped for, among others.

But on HBO's "Joe Buck Live" on Tuesday night, Schilling shut the door. "Regardless of the amount of support and outreach that's been given to me, it just did not make sense," he said.

That leaves state Representative Scott Brown as the most prominent candidate on the Republican side.

Schilling, while not running, isn't putting a lid on his outspokenness.

"I think the country is sick and tired of elected officials beholden to special interests," he said on HBO. "I think we're at a time and a place where we're voting for the lesser of two evils instead of the best candidate."

1. Too bad. It would have been fun seeing him get stomped like a narc at a biker rally.

2. If Lynn Swann could lose by 19points in a state like Pennsylvania
it would have been amusing as hell to see how bad Schilling could get trounced up in Massachusetts.

4. I know, it's just not fair
Back in 2006, the republicans wanted to get back a house seat they lost in Pennsylvania. The district was redesigned in a way that merged 2 house seats together (this was after redistricting) and the republicans (who had control of the PA house) made it a point to create the seat as a safe seat for their incumbant George Gekas. But instead of Gekas keeping the seat, the other 'incumbant' (the guy whose district merged into Gekas's) Tim Holden won the seat.

Republicans were pissed and wanted their seat back and decided that the best way to win it was to run a 'celeb' in the slot. The District, PA-17, is in the heart of Happy Valley PA - the home of Penn State Nittany Lions. Anything associated with Joe Paterno and Penn State was suppose to be golden. So the republicans helped Scott Paterno, son of Joe Paterno, to move into the PA-17 district so he could run against Tim Holden and give the seat back to the republicans.

Of course Scott was one of those typical kids of a celebrity where everything that Scott received in his lifetime was thanks to his dad's status including his college & law degree. And even though Paterno Jr had a Dickenson Law Degree, he was pretty much a slacker who never made more than $25k a year after graduating or ever used his law degree.

Paterno's kid went down in flames. He barely won his primary (a 6-way race) and he was a joke on the campaign circuit. Paterno Jr was an overweight slob who didn't really take the time to make himself look presentable. His shirts were constantly untucked and he had an overall 'unclean' look to himself.

Tim Holden won re-election by a landslide.
