Michelle Paterson Rips Obama: "Unfair and Inappropriate" |
|
MSNBC (with Tamron Hall): Michelle Paterson has stated on TV that it is unusual and "unfair and inappropriate" for President Obama to get involved in NY local politics. She says that her husband Gov. David Paterson is running for re-election as Governor of New York even against Obama's wishes. Evidently she also said that one of the reasons that Paterson has low poll numbers is his disability as a blindman implying that the public has no confidence in someone with a disability. David Paterson will appear Sunday in David Gregory's Show "Meet the Press".

2. Well, I'm sure reporters were anxious to get a statement... |
|
Of course she'd stand up for her husband.

you're positive the other party will see your way of thinking.

5. I agree. Hopefully Paterson will bow out in MTP. He is really a drag |
|
for the Democratic NY ticket. Too bad that Spitzer committed his pecadillo, he was a decent governor.

13. This is not the Soviet Union, and Obama is not Khrushchev |
|
were the Secretary General of the CPSU could appoint officials at will.
As Will Rogers used to say, "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."

6. I agree with her. However, Paterson hasn't a snowball in hells chance of winning |
|
the governorship in NY. This man is a loser from the time he took office. If I were him I would take the advice. I think Cuomo has the best chance of winning the governorship.

16. My thought when I saw Paterson was to be on GE/mtp/gregory |
|
who's main objective is to bring down the Democratic President.
If Paterson weren't such a fiasco in New York as acting Gov..this would have some merit but he's just acting out now and showing why there was a call for him to step down. No class..he can whine some more about Race with gregory and get that shit stirred up again.

8. Does she think this helps her husband. |
|
There was a story earlier where she was saying something about him being one of the only Black Governors. And now shes throwing his blindness in there.
I don't see how this helps

11. Patterson was elected Lieutenant Governor |
|
and according to the Constitution of the state of New York, assumed the governorship after Spitzer resigned.
All of us vote for our respective Lieutenant Governors knowing that if something were to occur and the governor could not serve, the Lieutenant Governor will take the reigns of state government until the next election. This what happened when our Democratic governor O'Bannon died in office and was replaced by Lieutenant Governor Joe Kernan.
We Hoosiers would not have taken kindly at being told by a Beltway honcho that our governor should step down to let a Beltway favorite to run for office. I don't know if New Yorkers would react the same way, but here in the Midwest, we just don't care much for the politicking inside the Beltway.

14. No, what's inappropriate is making these statements on TV |
|
I don't know what her aim or goal was, but by doing this, it won't help her husband -
She's not taking the big picture into account.

15. Sorry Michelle P.. the little "revelation" given by the two of you |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 04:25 PM by SoCalDem
shortly after he inherited the desk, turned a lot of people off..on both of you. He had a small window of opportunity to show the people of New York, "what he was made of", and to make his own mark on the office, but apparently he has not succeeded.
I doubt that Obama had anything to do with that..

17. One might bitterly disagree with his choices but the leader of the party has the right |
|
If you don't like his selection then elect the other guy despite his wishes. People act like he has the power to decide what cards are in the deck.

19. Obama is trying not to have the Republicans win NJ, VA, AND NY |
|
That would be terrible. And give them big momentum in fund raising and everything. Because it doesn't look like Corzine is going to win anything

22. it isn't just fundraising and momentum, its redistricting based on the 2010 census. |
|
holding local legislatures and governorships is a HUGE deal this time around. We don't want the GOP in control of the redistricting process because they will Gerrymander the hell out of it.

23. part of it is the state doesn't like him and he blames Obama for everything that goes wrong |
|
which might be a circular argument. As I understand it, Patterson takes every opportunity to dis Obama he can. Since he's going to lose, Obama was right to tell him to get out of the race in light of his constant trashing of Obama.
