Newsflash Liz! Not only does Barack Obama KNOW what the Bush doctrine is ...... he doesn't subscribe to it!!!

She also thinks his efforts toward nuclear diplomacy wont help with Iran.

I'll give her a break, she probably hasnt' read this headline yet....

Russian leader open to new Iran nukes sanctions
By BEN FELLER (AP) – 1 hour ago

NEW YORK — Giving some ground on a top priority of President Barack Obama, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday that sanctions are rarely productive but he opened the door to tougher ones to halt Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program.

"In some cases, sanctions are inevitable," the Russian leader said after he and Obama held talks on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meetings.

At a briefing in New York, White House officials are expressing delight with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev’s comments a short time ago raising the specter of sanctions if Iran doesn’t shutter its alleged nuclear weapons program. “To me that’s a very big change in their position,” said National Security Council Russia Director Michael McFaul. “It was not that long ago where we had very divergent definitions of the threat and definitions of our strategic objectives vis a vis Iran….. I cant improve on what President Medvedev said.”

When a reporter suggested that previous administrations have claimed Russia also opposed Iranian nukes, McFaul replied, “You can read the statements from what he said under the Bush Administration and compare them. They’re different.”

McFaul said almost all of Obama’s meeting with the Russians this afternoon was devoted to Iran and that various strategies to win Iranian compliance were discussed.

McFaul did not dispute that Obama’s recent decision to abandon fixed missile defense sites in Eastern Europe that Russia had long objected to may have improved the climate in U.S.-Russian relations, but the NSC officials insisted that the decision wasn’t made for that reason. “Is it the case that it changes the climate? Yes, of course. But it’s not cause and effect,” he said. -- Josh Gerstein (6:00 p.m.)
