POLL: Obama leads 2012 foes - beats Huck by 7, Romney by 9, Palin by 15.
Obama leads 2012 foes

If Barack Obama had to stand for reelection today he'd win by as much as he did last year, if not more.

He leads Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Sarah Palin by anywhere from 7-15 points in hypothetical 2012 contests.

Huckabee comes the closest, trailing Obama 48-41. In the six months PPP has run this poll he has been the most competitive Republican every time. Obama's lead has increased from 47-44 over the former Arkansas Governor a month ago.

Mitt Romney does next best, down 48-39. In some ways he looks like a stronger general candidate than a primary one though. He has the best favorability of the GOP quartet with Democrats and independents, but only 50% of Republicans have a positive opinion of him compared to 70% for Mike Huckabee and 69% for Sarah Palin. Will he be able to connect well enough with the GOP base to snag the nomination?

It's safe to say that the country is not ready for another Bush. Only 22% of respondents said they had a favorable opinion of Jeb, with 45% saying it was unfavorable. Even Palin's numbers are better with Democrats and independents than his. He trails Obama 50-37 in a potential contest. It'll be interesting to see if the Bush brand is permanently damaged or if the family can make a comeback in the future, but it seems safe to say that won't be likely in the next few years.

And finally Sarah Palin polls the worst against Obama, and her numbers have been getting progressively worse over the last couple months. Her favorability peaked in our polling at 47/45 in the middle of July, then dropped to 40/49 in August, and now 37/55 in September. Hard to say why she's seeing so much droppage during a period when she's been mostly out of the public eye but it all adds up to her trailing Obama 53-38.

31. and unless its done state by state, useless.

Is there a single state that Obama did take that he is likely to lose?

Are there some states he didn't take that he is now likely to?

Those are the only two questions that are relevent and the answer right now is 1)no 2) yes

7. If Sarah didn't poop herself and light her podium on fire mid-debate,
the media would declare her performance a resounding success, that she "trounced" an "unprepared President Obama" and then would manufacture loaded polls to show a tightening race.

Remember? Because she didn't crash and burn against Biden, she automatically "won". God forfucking BID that the pundits actually decide who won based on who had better command of the issues.

9. The polling currently shows Huckabee favored by GOP voters, then
Willard.

Palin is an unimpressive third. I am not seeing her as a competitive candidate in the GOP primary unless Huck and Willard bow out.

If Obama is strong going into the next presidential cycle, Huckabee might decide he doesn't need the exposure and sit it out. That would put Palin in closer competition, but she's not based in the lower 48 and essentially she's kind of marginal. So far anyway I don't hear a loud chorus of Republicans promoting her as their 2012 nom.

And meanwhile, ol' Willard's got some serious money and a huge ego to match.

10. Mittens learned that money doesn't buy votes--not all of them, anyway.
He needs the support of those people that hate him to win--if they stay home and Mitt is the nominee, we could be looking at a Johnson-sized landslide.

a well-underfunded Huckabee and lost the nom to a cognitively deficient John McCain.

Not a good sign for Romney's chances this next time.

5. Only 69% of Republicans view Palin favorably?
She'll never be President.

They should poll Obama/Pawlenty or Obama/Cantor. Those two, I would wager, are more likely opponents for him. Romney won't make it through the primaries because the Palinites hate him. Palin won't make it through because the Romneyites hate her. Huck's not real popular with the party's higher-ups. Gingrich has too much baggage to make it through a primary, much less a general election.

But Pawlenty is bland, inoffensive, and perhaps could be their best shot--which isn't saying much. He's the best of a really shitty group of candidates.

14. 2012
For starters has anyone else noticed PPP has become awful friendly to Republicans In their polling?

People should remember Republicans almost always go for frontrunners. Now while at one point Mccain
looked like he was through he was always a frontrunner for the nomination after Saint Rudy.Democrats
have unexpected primarys.I say Romeny,Huckabee, and Palin are the frontrunners.Pawlenty, and Gingrich
may run but will not win.Obama can beat any of them.Romney will be killed as a flipflipper. If you
thought John Kerry was one he was nothing compared to Romney.Huchabee could have trouble with
Hispanics because of his antiImmigration rhetic not to mentions some comments he has made.Palin Is a
joke. And remember the far right relgious fantatics who are the Republican Base could get her the
nomination.

28. Why repeat a RW smear here on DU?
John Kerry has one of the most consistent records in either party. There are no big flip flops. What the Republicans used as a flip flop was not a flip flop. He voted for one bill that would have paid for the $87 billion with a roll back in the tax cuts for the wealthy and had oversight of the spending. He then voted against the bill without those features. Both of these votes look right in retrospect.

16. I think Obama is most like Reagan as historical parallels go.
So 2012 shouldn't be a problem, although I'm not expecting a 49-state win- those are much, much easier for the GOP.

23. Private citizen Mrs. Palin is finished
She will go spread her "Good messages from the United States" for a while until people realize what a dunce she is and how irrelevant she is and what a waste of money to invite her to speak. She is a quitter who has no loyalty to anyone but herself.

Her right wing whacko spiel is tiresome.
