http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/the-impeachment-of-presid_b_297330.html

If the Republicans ever manage to retake Congress, they will absolutely try to impeach President Obama. And it'll be based upon a supremely ridiculous charge such as, say, the president refusing to nourish our crops with a sports drink instead of water.

I am absolutely certain this will happen, if the Republican Party takes back Congress in some kind of 1994 type thing. Impeachment's nothing more than a political tool for the Republicans.

38. Gerald Ford said it best
What, then, is an impeachable offense? The only honest answer is that an impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers to be at a given moment in history.

9. Let me guess...
The message for 2010 will be: Out of fear of the republicans impeaching the President, we should vote for anyone with a 'D' beside their name, no matter what they stand for, so the Dems can keep a majority.

Sorry, that ship has sailed.

14. The End Of America
IF you say? If the evil of the lessors are able to manipulate a position of power in the halls of our government then by all means we should declare America as Amerika.
For if such a nightmare is established by the vote of the sheeple, then my dear friends, let them bend over before the ones they serve, cause they will surly get what they deserve.
But for the rest of the sane monkeys in the "Terror Dome." There are a few places of refuge on this planet where the "In God We Trust" toilet paper still holds some value.

15. so what?
I mean, so far I haven't seen any really good reasons why they'd even succeed, never mind them trying it without looking like a bunch of fucking assholes.

What sorts of "crimes and misdemeanors" are they going to invent that would be WORSE than what Bush was involved in? What are they going to do, set him up with another Monica Lewinsky or something?

Honestly, I think this is on a level of ridiculousness equal to, say, the RWers screeching about Obama wanting to "take away" their guns or their bibles. Or building detention camps for teabaggers.

A) The Democrats are going to fuck us royally on health care. People will remember it, and as a result, B) the Republicans are indeed going to take back Congress.

I almost said I wish I were wrong...but when I thought about it, if A happens, then I really don't see why B shouldn't happen too. I mean, why not?

Remember what they did to Bill and Hillary?

Bad land investments? INVESTIGATION!
Firing travel office staff? INVESTIGATION!

I see others are claiming that it's a RW talking point, but I'm pretty sure that there's a difference between a description and a talking point....

They'll go after him with anything, and everything, they can, because it's how they work.

37. IF they succeeded at that, (BIG IF), they would get Joe Biden for
the rest of the term, and Nancy Pelosi might become VP instead of Speaker???

(Of course Joe could nominate someone else to be VP, like .... well, a thousand people would piss off more Rethuglicans.)

Seriously impeaching Obama would be a waste of time and energy....now that I think about it, that's all the Rethuglicans ever are and all that they ever do.

39. Well, I don't know.
Then again, after persecuting a president and his wife for 5 years, Congress impeached that president for lying in a civil case about oral sex.

So anything is possible.

However, given some Conservadems' inclinations, maybe they won't have to, in order to impeach Obama.

41. since you are "absolutely certain" I'm confident you are willing to place a small wager on this?
Of course, I don't foresee the repubs recapturing the House in 2010 -- they'll pick up a bunch of seats, but not enough to reclaim a majority.

But in the unlikely event that happens, I am willing to bet a $50 contribution to DU that there is no serious impeachment effort mounted (I'm not going to rule out the possibility that some numbnuts will introduce a resolution, but a serious effort means doing more than the Democrats did with resolutions introduced against chimpy and/or cheney).

And to be fair, all you have to do is agree to donate one-half that amount -- $25 -- if we get to the 2012 elections without a serious repub effort at impeachment.

You in?
