Rand Paul sighting...with the usual predictable spiel
Even though he and his dad keep touting it, I can't find even the most ignorant, bass-ackward, Beck-tard jaggoff who actually thinks eliminating the Dept. of Education is a good idea...

Rand Paul: Let market fix health care

HEBRON - America needs free market reforms - and not a government-run overhaul - to expand access to health care and reduce costs, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul said Saturday. Paul, an eye surgeon from Bowling Green, discussed health care at length during a town hall meeting in Hebron.

"We need to get government out of the way, because capitalism works," he told the friendly crowd of about 120 people. "...Let's have innovative solutions that don't involve government."

He said individuals should be able to negotiate prices with their doctors and buy health insurance across state lines, and the competition would drive down costs.

He supports health savings accounts, higher deductibles and importing prescription drugs from other countries.

Paul favors cutting government spending in general - he proposed eliminating the Department of Education - and opposes federal earmarks.

Do they ever stop and listen to themselves/see the obvious? Rhetorical question I know.

I really wish there was a proper term to them. I mean, I wished before that they would be the ones to fix the Republican party...now I just see them as compounding the problem with milking the fuck out of failed theories.

2. the general term i use is just 'paul libertarians'
the use of the paul name already implies rigid, unbending, absolutist ideology of few laws, no taxes, no government, a military and police used only to protect corporate interests, and overly simplistic 'market-based' solutions to solve complex issues...

He must not have looked very hard, I googled "eliminating the Dept. of Education", the third reference revealed the quote below from Wikipedia.

President Ronald Reagan promised during the 1980 presidential election to eliminate the Department of Education as a cabinet post,<1> but he was not able to do so with a Democratic House of Representatives. In the 1982 State of the Union Address, he pledged:
“ The budget plan I submit to you on Feb. 8 will realize major savings by dismantling the Department of Education.<2> ”
Throughout the 1980s, the abolition of the Department of Education was a part of the Republican Party platform, but the administration of President George H. W. Bush declined to implement this idea.
In 1996, the Republican Party made abolition of the Department a cornerstone of their campaign promises, calling it an inappropriate federal intrusion into local, state, and family affairs.<2> The GOP platform read:
“ The Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula or to control jobs in the market place. This is why we will abolish the Department of Education, end federal meddling in our schools, and promote family choice at all levels of learning.<2><3> ”
During his 1996 presidential run, Senator Bob Dole promised, "We're going to cut out the Department of Education."<3>

So, the Paul's believe in the Republican Platform, big news!

4. What is even scarier is that he could win.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/15/rand-paul-to-run-for-senate/

"WASHINGTON (CNN) – Dr. Rand Paul, the son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, announced Thursday night that he is forming an exploratory committee to to challenge Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning in a Republican primary.

Paul made the announcement Thursday night on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show.

Paul had said previously that he would not throw his hat in the ring if Bunning decided to run for reelection. Bunning — seen as one of the weakest Republicans in the 2010 race — has said that he will run again, but Paul said he doesn't necessarily trust that the two-term Kentucky senator will follow through."

Anyone know who their Democratic opponent will be? I really don't want to cheer for a republican, but I hope Mr. Bunning can stop Rand Paul. One Paul in congress is more than enough.

http://digg.com/politics/Ron_Paul_Poll_shows_Rand_Paul_can_win_Money_Bomb_Today

"The first independent Senate poll in Kentucky has Dr. Rand Paul just 11 points behind establishment candidate Trey Grayson. There is no doubt now that Rand Paul can win this race and go to Washington as a true voice of Liberty. Today, we need to build on that momentum by donating at this website, edited to delete Paul's website.

5. I dont the libertarians can really gain true political steam
as long as they have that R next to their name.

When they drop it, then I'll be worried --

7. Well they are kinda like the Greens with the Democratic party.
They use the D because they wouldn't have any power at all without it. I saw your post earlier. Glad you left the republicans, they deserved it for leaving you, and welcome to DU.

6. Yeah, because nothing bad could come
of allowing the "invisible hand of the free market" to roam free of regulation.

God, how do Ron and Rand put their goddamn pants on in the morning?

9. Ron Paul's campaign didn't provide health insurance option for the 200+ staffers

on Ron Paul For President campaign. His chief campaign finance manager died uninsured at age 49, leaving $400,000 debt in medical bills.

Rand is a chip off the old looney pop.
