Could Christian Scientists be forced to purchase health insurance? |
|
Wouldn't they be eligible for a Conscientious Objector status? Would there suddenly be lots people becoming Christian Scientists if they felt they could not afford health insurance?
Medicare for All! If they opened Medicare to anyone who wanted it, you would see a sudden and dramatic drop in the price of private insurance. End of story.

1. Christian Scientists generally turn to Christian Science treatment as their first resort for healing |
|
My Pops was a Christian Scientist and consulted with doctors up until his death. A Christian Scientist knows a busted leg or repairing a ruptured appendix needs medical attention, but believe diseases can be prevented or held in check through prayer. All the Christian Scientists in my family died of cancer, go figure.

2. Christian Science providers are covered by many health policies. |
|
They would need only to buy policies that included such coverage.

There is an insurance company, SCS insurance that provides insurance for Christian Scientists. It pays for practitioners and it also covers emergency medical care. Christian Scientists are actually a good risk since they seldom go to doctors. Christian Scientist are on both sides of this debate. Most are politically conservative, but some of the younger generation - particularly on the west coast are liberal. I don't believe the church has an official position.
