Harry Shearer of "Obama to New Orleans: Drop Dead" Fame Conveniently Ignores Stimulus
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 01:25 PM by TomCADem
Even "liberals" can do biased hit pieces apparently. Here is an article by Harry Shearer of HuffPo taking a cheap shot at President Obama's support of the Olympics in Chicago:

###

So this morning comes the news that President Obama will make a "surprise" trip to Copenhagen, along with his wife, to make a presentation on behalf of Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics. Aside from the possible malice he's showing towards his home town -- here come massive deficits, white-elephant signature buildings, and other perks -- I found this story interesting as the ultimate rebuke to the months of comments from people here regarding the Obama administration's torpor when it comes to remedying the aftermath of the failure of the federal levees in New Orleans. "Give him time," they said, "he's got a lot on his plate".

###

Yet, no mention is made of the over $1 billion being made available to Lousiana alone under the Recovery Act. I just do not see how you can ignore the largest infrastructure spending bill in the past few decades when discussing what President Obama has done for New Orleans. Indeed, he could have visited Louisiana's own recovery site to track where the hundreds of millions of federal dollars went.

3. I Guess He Missed The Think Progress Pictures of Bobby Jindal
Handing out the large checks while also attacking the stimulus. Perhaps Shearer should look into where did Bobby Jindal get the money to hand out those large checks for infrastructure projects throughout Louisiana.

2. The Professional Victim Class seems to have a problem with the Chicago Olympics
I guess all of the jobs created in Chicago are lost on them. Much better that people be victims, forever dependent on charity and porgrams.

6. The problem with New Orleans recovering is due to insurance industry and local politics
There has been a lot of money SENT to New Orleans and (as one who lived there while working for CBS affiliate) you can bet a lot of the money is going down a rat hole. A lot of people got screwed by the insurance industry who basically reneged on policies and it's ever so slowly coming back there.

Harry knows about Louisiana politics. It's some of the slimiest in the country... worse than Chicago in my view...

Should Obama pitch for Chicago in 2016? It's a bit too pure to think he would not. Should New Orleans get the gig? That would be cool, but did they pitch for it in the first place?

7. My daughter is in school in New Orleans
So we have spent some time down there recently. There is a sense of impatience among New Orleanians that Pres. Obama has not been there since the election. There has been a more concentrated recovery effort, but they want him to visit himself.

8. Wouldn't Jindal Raise A Stink? Jindal Attacked The Stimulus...
But turned around and claimed credit for handing out checks for federal projects. Indeed, would a visit by President Obama possibly obligate Jindal to try to oppose it regardless of how much Louisiana might benefit? Look at the stimulus and spending on Disaster preparation. If any State should benefit from that, it would be Lousiana.

10. perhaps in the rest of the state
But not in NOLA. When I was down there for her orientation in June, I met a man from Shreveport whose daughter was an incoming freshman at Tulane. He told me there are 3 Louisianas- the southeast, the Nortwrst
& New Orleans.

9. So Obama can't do X because New Orleans... ?
I guess this comes as news to Shearer, but unfortunately the infrastructure everywhere is in disrepair in this country.
