I honestly cannot get over the fact that Bush and Cheney will never suffer prosecution...
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 06:38 PM by mikelewis
It bothers me to no end and frankly there is only one person to blame; the President. Aside from that, I truly and honestly love Barak. I could even venture to call him a hero, if it weren't for that glaring fact.

I can't imagine why he would not immediately launch a full-scale investigation and prosecution of the many widely-known crimes committed by those in the Bush regime when he first took office. Some have argued that it would be too difficult to prosecute Bush et. al., it would be too politically costly, the Right wing might get mad at us and not vote for anything we want, that a trial of a U.S. President for a real crime would somehow seem petty, and I have even heard some say that Bush gets a pass because he was responding to the catastrophe of 9/11 and that makes everything better. My guess is... Barak wussed out... he chicken outed... he bowed out... he ran like an Ethiopian chicken...

He bravely ran away, away...
Oh Brave sir Obama
Yes, brave Sir Obama turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Obama!

....

And I just can't get past it...

No matter what issue he talks about... and I love hearing his speeches, each one is a work of art... but each speech is always punctuated with the exclamation... "Prosecution is off the table!" He doesn't say that of course... he doesn't have to...

Oh well...

1. It bothers me too.
Criminals need to be held accountable. I just wish our DEM leaders thought the same way.

3. He's a politician for chrissakes
And a damn good one at that. And being a politician he will hold his finger to the wind when nut ucutting time comes as far as making a decision on what to do about the cheney/bush torture cabal.

So let him know what you think. I'll do the same. If he hears it enough times he will believe that the American people WANT him to prosecute these douchebags.

But I would advise you not to include your Monty Python song parody in the communication.

7. mikelewis wrote "he ran like an Ethiopian chicken"
As compared to what? A Kenyan chicken? A Sambo chicken?

PS: It's Barack, not "Barak."

13. What's the fastest land animal?
An Ethiopian chicken.

I've never really thought of that joke as racist... a distasteful mockery of the plight of the poor to be sure but not racist. Kenyan chicken and Sambo chicken do sound racist though... however I believe Nigerian Chicken actually sounds even more caustically racist. Try and throw that one in next time you're calling someone a bigot... it's funnier.

Like dating the head Cheerleader or scoring that winning goal or getting that promotion at work.

You play it a thousand times in your head, but realistically you know it will never happen.

At this point, I'd settle for Cheney getting painful root canal work.

9. There is no excuse.
A rogue nation showing contempt for international law -- NPR, this week:

In a dramatic joint statement, Obama — flanked by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy — said the existence of the site "deepens a growing concern" that Iran has failed to live up to its international obligations to fully disclose its nuclear ambitions. Obama said Iran "is breaking rules that all nations must follow. . . . "

Honoring treaty obligations -- David Cole, New York Review of Books, this week:

The United States is legally bound by the Convention Against Torture to submit any case alleging torture by a person within its jurisdiction "to its competent authorities for the purpose of prosecution." President Obama and Attorney General Holder have both stated that waterboarding is torture. Accordingly, the United States is legally obligated to investigate not merely those CIA interrogators who went beyond waterboarding, but the lawyers and Cabinet officers who authorized waterboarding and other torture tactics in the first place. . . . Absent a reckoning for those responsible for making torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment official US policy, the United States' commitment to the rule of law will remain a hollow shell -- a commitment to be honored only when it is not inconvenient or impolitic to do so.

So much for the rule of law.

14. Looks at this point that no one will
Not those who manipulated the "justice" department- not the banksters and fraudsters who've violated multiple federal laws- not even the executives from Peanut corp who on the record willfully poisoned countless Americans.

Pathetic- and if that's how it ends up- it will be a an indelible mark of shame on this administration.

15. Its not a fact yet....they still live....there is a system that sez If it CAN HAPPEN...sooner or
later...Murphy ..Attorney... sez it will....

The "CAN" is in question here...if there is enough evidence escaping the shredders, then...as time goes by....the odds increase of a conviction of sorts

If there is absolutely No Evidence to speak of...they are most likey SAFE
