... I can assure you that we Democrats are here, if you look hard enough! ;)
I'm really liking this Representative Grayson. Hope he doesn't back down on his position, because he's speaking truth.

It is definitely strange to get liberals this far north in Florida ,however if I had to guess I would guess his district encompasses some or a lot of Alachua county. This is where the University of Florida is located and the only slightly liberal county in north Florida.Wexler and all other progressives in Congress from Florida come from south Florida especially southeast Florida .Florida is 3 states or more.

Grayson represents the 8th District, which includes parts of Orange, Osceola, Marion and Lake counties, and stretches from Ocala to Orlando. There must be a good Dem base in Orlando due to the tourism, which creates more of a ethnic mix. That's the only thing that explains this Rep getting elected in such a cracker barrel part of the state. No offense to the white guys there (like me :) )

22. I personally worked on his campaign - we had the Florida "A" team on the job. |
|
Central Florida has undergone a huge change in the last 5 years. In 2006 we elected Scott Randolph to the State House kicking out a Republican incumbent. In 2007 we elected Darren Soto to the State House in another district in a special election which was the first time in 9 years that a D has stolen a seat from an R in a special election.
We did it again with Tony Sasso early in 2008 in another special eletion (although we ended up giving the seat back in the general later on). Then in 2008 in the general we took back 2 seats in Congress with Alan Grayson and Suzanne Kosmas replacing Ric Keller and Tom Feeney. We are now 3 and 1 in Congress in Orlando where we used to be 1 and 3.
If you want to go to school on how to actually run and win races door to door, ask us - we've rewritten the book!
:D
