From the "ain't gonna happen but would be nice" file. Obama donates Nobel Prize money to... |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 01:28 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The Clinton Global Initiative.
Make a nice speech about how if it was his choice he would have given the prize to Bill Clinton and how even the small sum of $1.4 million can start thousands of small businesses, inoculate thousands of children, etc..
Granted, giving the Nobel Peace Prize money to your Secretary of State's husband's charity is the capital of Ain't-Gonna-Happen-Land...
...but it would be a sweet gesture.

4. Some of it should go to the Southern Poverty Law Center. |
|
All the racist crap hurled at Obama proves the need for that organization. Morris Dees should have gotten the Peace Prize years ago.

6. Many worthies, but should go to something international in scope |
|
Doctors without borders, intl red cross, amnesty international (probably unlikely!), etc.

9. If you follow David Corn on Twitter ... he's taking suggestions for where the money should go. |
|

Suggestions include Clinton Global Initiative, Habitat for Humanity, the national Free Clinics group ... http://twitter.com/DavidCornDC

10. well, it's not going to be Clinton Global Initiative or Habitat for Humanity |
|
as those are the bailiwicks of Clinton and Carter, and it would be decried as political incest. It will have to be a group or groups that are free of political connections, are bi-partisan in scope (no ACORN), and could make the best use of the money. International would be OK, such as Doctors W/O Borders, but that would draw fire from those saying the money is needed by our own citizens.
The free clinics group would be a contender.

11. I'd like to see if spread among some low-income schools. |
|
There are tons of great causes he can donate to, but my heart always bleeds for the kids who go to really poor schools that can't afford supplies or free school lunches to impoverished kids.
