Kerry gets endorsement of Quad City times in Iowa
A time for John Kerry
By QUAD-CITY TIMES STAFF

A funny thing about the Iowa caucuses: Candidates spend an inordinate amount of time trying to come across as ordinary guys in the coffee shops, grain elevators, at the factory gates and school gyms.

John Kerry just can’t cut it.

He’s not ordinary.

He’s extraordinary, in the nicest and most qualitative sense.

At the QUAD-CITY TIMES, before he parleyed with editorial board members, we took Kerry to a break room unannounced to talk with three of our co-workers who took a few minutes off the packaging insertion production line. In just minutes, he was speaking easily with them about hopes, dreams, troubles and disappointments and answering their questions. He handled the curve ball deftly and walked away talking about what he learned from them.

That was among the experiences that differentiated Kerry.

All the candidates we met spoke very well.

Kerry listens.

..Mods I know that I technically quoted 8 paragraphs, but I ask you to make an exception, since they wrote in short one sentence paragraph. I will edit this if you need me to.

2. Kudos for Kerry and Boo for Choppy Writers
This is a great endorsement for Kerry. The timing is also great.

I agree with you that an exception needs to be made. Just because the writers can't form complete paragraphs doesn't mean only four sentences should be quoted. :D

5. Yes, he's extraordinary
It's good to know somebody in Iowa gets it!

"A Washington insider? You bet, in the best sense with a track record of working well with Republicans and earning the friendship and support in Congress from Sen. John McCain.

A blue-blood Boston patrician? Definitely, with a Yale education and a Boston College law degree. He’s married to a millionaire wife who took notice when she overheard him singing Catholic hymns in Portuguese during a church service at an environmental summit in Brazil.

A regular guy? Not hardly.

It will take an exceptional individual to build coalitions that can add jobs to our economic recovery, corral healthcare costs and do the right thing in Iraq. Kerry has proven success building coalitions to get things done on a state, national and international level.

And he leaves an impression that his greatest successes — and ours — lie ahead."

7. An extraordinary endorsement. Must be read in its entirety.

Sandnsea, this part struck me, also. Author did not mention that Terersa's native tongue is Portugese, I believe, even though she was raised in Mozambique, the daughter of a bush doctor. She has also led an extraordinary life.

"Dont just send them a message. Send them a President." - John Kerry

8. This is great!
I hope the secret endorsement this afternoon comes from Boswell. Kerry is really picking up steam in Iowa. It's definitely not over.

Its refreshing to see others beginning to see JK for what he truly is - the most qualified, profound, and diplomatic candidate who's ever run for president.

9. Great accolades here:

"...Kerry believes the United States is even more isolated. “President Bush has proven the White House is not the place for on-the-job training,” he told the Times editorial board.

We agree and have heard from many of you who share that collective worry.

While other candidates demonstrate a promise for leadership in world affairs, Kerry has graduated from that school. Phi Beta Kappa.

On that last note, I agree strongly.
I find John inspires confidence of the highest order- that there really is no gulf too wide to cross or mountain too high to climb.

12. This is why Kerry can hammer Bush in EVERY area in the general election.
Bush was definitive proof that on the job training doesn't CUT IT on the world stage today.

18. I dunno about that.
I think it still comes down to the media. Plus, I don't think most people want to admit they've been conned no matter what they discover.

22. I've said that for so long now.
He can hammer Bush. In every area. Already. If he is the nominee, we can look forward to the debates with glee. It's such a surety it even rhymes. He will look like the let's face it taller, smarter, generally cooler older brother first-born George never had to compete with. Bush will absolutely melt down. The pathos! The similarity in backgrounds (though Bush grew up much richer) will only highlight the enormous gulf in intelligence and demeanor, even grammar. A lot of swing voters don't know much about Kerry. I really believe that in the general election, the more they see of Kerry the more they will be ashamed not to vote for him.

23. Alec Baldwin on Charlie Rose last night said
that Dean will have to be groomed because he is nowhere near ready to be president, and that Gore went with Dean because of the money reality not that he agrees with Dean.

He also said that every Democratic pol, analyst and operative say the only candidate ready to be president on DAY ONE is John Kerry.

Sad that so many Democrats aren't willing to see the forest for a very loud tree being placed front and center by the corporate media.
