1. God, that was sweet!
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 08:14 PM by KissMyAsscroft

Trippi does not take shit from these media whores.

He will point out that THEY are lying and distorting. It is so refreshing to see.

I don't know how that plays with the general electorate, but it's pretty sweet for me to watch.

*on edit....Does anyone here think Trippi will come out of that looking worse to middle of the roaders?

9. Trippi called this idiot on the fact that she refused to give the....
full quote on the 9/11 Saudi Arabia connection. She only read the first part of the sentence and framed the question as if Dean believed the rumors and Trippi kept telling her to keep reading. She wouldn't and he nailed her by telling her that if she would just finish reading the quote, she would know he said he doesn't believe the rumors.

The media whore was visibly flustered. It was great.

14. hrm
well, i'm not a Dean supporter so maybe my bias impacted the story

but i thought it was Trippi that spluttered - and the 5 minutes of 'Dean's campaign is in trouble' that was the focus of the post interview roundtable that rehashed that mantra cant be considered 'good'

When she asked him whether the story of Dean being held in check to try to prevent any gaffes was true - Trippi denied it, but didnt do so convincingly. To me, it was more of a change of subject denial than a denial denial - the 'we have to focus on local media' doesnt jive with Dean's own comments on the matter.

i didnt see this as a good event. I dont think it was terrible - Trippi got to be on a soapbox and hammer at W - but it wasnt good.

11. That was pretty damn cool.
Zahn tried to smear Dean with a quote out of context (this never happens at DU), and when Trippi called her on it -- just to continue the sentence immediately afterwards -- she was like, uh, uh, um..... Trippi didn't back down either!

(Paraphrasing)

"It's ridiculous that we're here talking about a statement that Howard Dean made four years ago when the morning Iowa papers led with the story of twelve Iowans who were wounded in this unnecessary war. That's the real story ... the one we should be talking about."

24. Don't antagonize the media
I like Trippi but we learned from Kucinich that nothing is gained by attacking the media. It's one big cabal and they form a collective opinion on you based on you. It's fine to refute them but based on what I'm hearing, Trippi was slamming her and that will not play well. Once we're elected, we can get some serious reform.

During the 2000 elections we let these whores run rampant over Gore with their lies and distortions...It ain't gonna happen this time... You attack these whores at every turn!

Look what happened to David Brooks the last two days...The guy writes a whore story, we attack and he caves... Thats how we do it!

31. I don't think we're in disagreement
The Brooks matter was handled not because we antagonized him, but because we highlighted his mistake and made it obvious to him that he was in the wrong. I may be wrong, but I get the impression that Trippi was needlessly caustic with Zahn. We can challenge them and force them to be honest without mean-spiritidness.

27. Sorry--I can't go along with that.
Trippi already knows that the media make their own news to make their money. He's well aware of that.

Dean's roaring like a steam train, the American people know that the media are manipulating them, and it's about time somebody said something about it.

We should not be afraid of them. They've made so much money on their statistical spin of HUTS and PUTS and fear mongering, and on their tabloid waste-headedness...no way, friend.

Trippi's right.

I agree we should challenge and contest them- and force them to tell the truth. I got the impression that Trippi was needlessly caustic with Zahn, and I just don't think that helps. You can set them straight without being vile about it.

Kucinich wasn't attacking Koppel during that mock "debate," he was defending himself. And defending our right to hear Dems discuss actual issues.

36. Good going Trippi
Supposedly when Clark smacked the Faux reporter, his campaign advisor (Chris Lehane) pulled him aside and told him not to do it. Then they saw the spike in contributions and interest in the campaign. It helped Clark.

Trippi did a good thing. I love a Dem standing up for themself.

38. I just saw the repeat
All of her questions were set to impale Dean and Trippi did a respectable job of standing up for his candidate. The big sticking point was over the Saudi Arabia connection to 9/11 where Trippi repeated what Dean said, that he didn't believe Bush knew.
When will any news outlet present something positive towards Dean? Also, Dean should have brought up the 28 missing pages about Saudi Arabia, instead of being caught in a he said/she said.
Peter Beinart and Joe Klein from Time Mag. were in the roundtable. More Dean bashing, but Klein brought up the 28 missing pages and said Dean would have been right with that.
Paula was flustered and would not read the part in question. Seems they have to put Dean in the worst light possible. :spank:
