Wesley Clark Calls 9 / 11 Assertions Lies
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 6:32 p.m. ET
LEBANON, N.H. (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark said ``the two greatest lies'' of the last three years were that the Sept. 11 attacks could not have been prevented and that a future attack is inevitable.

``If I'm president of the United States, I'm going to take care of the American people,'' Clark told the Concord Monitor for a story published Friday. ``We are not going to have one of these incidents.''

In previous statements, Clark blamed President Bush for intelligence failures that contributed to the attacks in New York and Washington. The chairman of the federal commission investigating the attacks has said mistakes had left the nation vulnerable but did not blame the Bush or Clinton administrations.

Meeting on Thursday with the Monitor editorial board, Clark said: ``I think the two greatest lies that have been told in the last three years are: You couldn't have prevented 9-11 and there's another one that's bound to happen.''<snip>

4. Wow- he uses the actual word "lies"...
...things are looking up- I hope Clark & all DEMS start calling a spade a spade...

Bush has been lying- probably more than any president, and DEMS need to start exposing his lies...

7. You know, the word "lies" doesn't even begin to describe
what this mis-administration has done to our nation and the world. I'm a little OT, but truly I believe that General Clark is best equipped to confront the * monster and defeat him.

10. Nor does it begin to describe this ridiculous statement of Clark's.
Unless Clark pulls the puppetstrings for those who did 9-11, his statement is ridiculous.

I am a MIHOPPER. If Clark has the juice to call off the BFEE to get him elected, then we do not need or want him.

5. Well said, General!
I think I found my #2:

Meeting on Thursday with the Monitor editorial board, Clark said: ``I think the two greatest lies that have been told in the last three years are: You couldn't have prevented 9-11 and there's another one that's bound to happen.''

16. I suggest the iggy
I'm not sure what the poster said, b/c I learned the joys of the iggy button. I've only used it on two posters, and their responses are typical. Surprisingly, there are very few bashing posts available to my eyes now. The whole Dean camp isn't bad. I think there are just a few outspoken Kool-aid drinkers making it look that way here.

I suggest the iggy. It's a beautiful thing.

22. Nah, it's no sweat off my back.
I don't get offended or put off by some of the more aggressive Deanies, I like Dean plenty myself, I just don't like the candidate bashing that goes on around. We really need more unity in that regards. I expect such childishness from freepers but to see it from a fellow Dem is a little dissappointing.

Right now I'm pretty much torn between Dean, DK, and Clark. In a perfect world CMB would have a better chance but c'est la vie.

24. My Problem
...is that I don't think Clark can fulfill his promises. He says he can cut taxes, create all kinds of new programs, and balance the budget. I don't think that's possible. He says he can prevent another terrorist attack. Even the president can't make that guarantee- you can say something like we will do the best we can to prevent a repeat indicent. I'm tired of Clark making thise idle promises.

Nobody can say these things seriously because NOBODY can tell the future,

Who does Clark think he is?

He sounds like another lying politician. Read his lips.

20. The emptiest of smears
Check out the post referenced by this reply. Look for actual content in there. Look for a clear link to the original post. Look for a reference that applies particularly for Clark.

Is is just me, or is there no there there? Why do people post such empty, nasty crud?

25. Amen
Clark says, "`We are not going to have one of these incidents."

Rational thinkers go, "Not even the President can make that guarantee. Don't make idle promises."

Much more responsible to say, "I will make the defense of our people a top priority"

Clark's got to stop this business of just saying things because that's what people want to hear.

15. Clark is right.
If someone says that the "Sept. 11 attacks could not have been prevented" they are lying. Clearly they could have been prevented. I don't look for Bush to say anything about this. I look for him to kind of whistle and hope it goes away.

Likewise with the other lie that a future attack is inevitable. No one knows whether it is inevitable or not. The GOP won't say anything about it. Clark wants to tweak them and they know it.

17. I LOVE IT!

I had to think about Clark's statement for a few hours to figure out how I felt about it.

My initial reaction was "come on now, how can he say he would prevent terrorists attacks?"

But then I thought about strategy and it's fucking brilliant. Everyone will have the same initial reaction...Hannity said it tonight. "How can he promise this? No one can promise this."

Here's the kicker. If Republicans publicly acknowledge that no one could accurately make this claim, then why vote for Bush? If he can't protect us from attacks because "no one can promise that", then are we suppose to re-elect Bush based on his economic plan? Nope. Environment, foreign relations, or education? Huge no on that. He lied about WMD, his staff leaked the identity of Plame...how is he a strong candidate when it comes to our safety???

It would be wise of the other Democratic candidates to not assert that Clark is wrong on making this statement. When asked, they should just say "This is a question for Bush and his administration to answer."

Brilliant.

21. Don't forget Gephardt--all three are boxed in by this assertion
They could either agree with Clark, and follow him along; dissent from him, and so simply lie; or wuss out in the middle.

They chose the last of the three. They're so toast. It's Clark versus Dean; it's just so obvious.
