Tavis Smiley post debate show and panel are the best I've seen tonight |
|
Their criticisms of Kerry were right on target as was their criticisms about Bush. In sum, Kerry won but did not give a convincing performance to grab new voters. Bush lived down to the low expectations Karen Hughes set earlier this week.

1. You know what ... I disagree. |
|
I personally know of two people Kerry impressed enough tonight to change their vote.

2. I disagree - a convincing performance was indeed given by Kerry |
|
Indeed after 30 minutes it was time to call the game under the "mercy" rule.

what was kerry supposed to do? Juggle chainsaws on a unicycle?
He fucking kicked Bush's ass. How does that not grab new voters? It even contradicts the polling results thusfar.

5. I have to disagree too. |

My aunt can't stand Bush, but she was never that enthusiastic about Kerry and thought he was a boring speaker. But after this debate, she said that Kerry did very well and is finally showing some life in him.

6. Right. That's why 99% of the polls are indicating that Kerry... |
|
...won the debate going away. Several of those polls have indicated that the large majority of undecideds thought Kerry won and that he would get their vote.

someone already beat me to bullshit ...
this point is so absurd I don't know where to begin ... let's try this: first of all, this is a republican talking point ... no matter what Kerry did in the debate, they will always say that it won't change anyone's vote ... a big old BULLSHIT to that ...
what do you think undecided voters will finally decide on, the weather? they will decide on either "soft" issues like confidence, charisma, or even god forbid physical stature or they will decide on the issues ...
Kerry won the debate in almost everyone's opinion ... it would be nonsense to argue otherwise ... and why did he win? was it because he is tall? was it because bush flubbed a couple of answers ... was it because of trivial factors that won't influence many votes ...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! it's because Kerry clearly understood the issues better ... it's because Kerry sharply and succinctly was able to provide a clear vision on how to solve problems ... it's because all bush brought to the table was "Kerry flip-flops; Kerry flip-flops" ... his words didn't ring true ... Kerry presented a mature, articulate, consistent vision on dealing with Iraq, dealing with bin Laden, dealing with North Korea, dealing with Iran, dealing with Homeland Security, dealing with allies and on and on ... and all bush had was "stay the course" and Kerry flip-flops ...
stay what course ??? do you think undecided voters think it's probably a good idea to do more of the same in Iraq ? this was probably the first many of them heard about 90% of casualties in Iraq being U.S. casualties ... and 90% of the cost too ... what is it about these important statistics that you think wouldn't be convincing enough to "grab new voters" ...
republicans will spin this by saying that almost all voters are "locked in" and that nothing really matters ... it's just not so ... "locked in" is a nice characterization of most, not all, who say they've decided ... it's an absurd characterization of those saying they are undecided ...
Kerry hit this one out of the park ... whatever, criteria undecided voters will use to make up their minds, Kerry's performance tonight can only be a plus ... to say otherwise is double bullshit ...
