16. my unqualified psychological opinion |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 02:27 AM by progdonkey
Bush's Freudian slip regarding "leashing" his daughters does point to a deeper psychological issue. Bush has a deep hatred of his parents--his mother because she was distant and never instructed him how to grieve over his sister's death (further stunting his emotional and intellectual growth); his father because of the long shadow of achievement he cast on Bush's life.
Now, in his daughters you have a merging of these two hatreds. That his daughters are women invokes the hatred of "Mother" in him; that they are both intelligent--if frequently drunk--college graduates invokes his hatred of being outshined by family members.
It's quite obvious that the use of a leash is one of control and domination. By fantasizing about keeping his daughters on a leash, he is fantasizing about controlling and dominating these icons which represent his greatest anxieties.
Of course, I could just be tired, drunk, and full of shit....
(Regardless of the psychology, in can't be denied that it's frighteningly stupid for someone under investigation for abuse which involved keeping people on leashes to joke about... keeping people on leashes.)

I concur!
I will add that Kerry's response was also quite good! Something like ""I've learned not to do that."!"
As Al Franken would say, the leash comment was Bush "joking on the square".
And you know what? Ther's no reason your analysis can't be correct AND Bush was ALSO drunk, tired and full of shit! ;-)

My theory on Bush's Relativity: Since the girls have started to travel in the Holy GW Bush Dog and Pony revue, someone has been getting into Junior's booze stash on AF1! At first he prolly thought it was "Vlad-i-meer" or Brother KKKarl, but then the stash on the tour bus got raided too, after the twins signed on! I guess tying them up would be one way of having a drink around, when he gets his ass kicked on coast to coast prime time TV, by Honest John Kerry!

I could give a rat's ass (a city saying) whether it's a common country saying or not. The imagery is unmistakeable. A thoughtful, empathetic statesman would have never made that reference. So naturally * did.

39. Kerry always says something that makes me see that he understands women. |
|
When Bush said that, and it was funny, Kerry responded that he had learned a long time ago not to do that. Now that tells me that he understands women. Once we are over 18 we are our own women. This isn't the first time either. I first became interested in Kerry over a year ago when Russert asked him on MTP if he was the richest senator and he said he was not. Russert said, but your wife has money and Kerry said, "That is my wife's money". Then when Russert asked if he was going to use that money for his campaign and he said again that it was his wife's money to spend and not his.

It said a lot about Bush, about how he feels about other people. A lot of people think racist jokes are funny too
I agree about the rest of your statement, though. I think the way Kerry handled it showed integrity. He didn't just laugh and make himself complicit in degrading the daughters.
