I thought that Kerry's performance tonight was much superior to Gore's in 2000. However, I know that Gore trounced Bush in 2000, and the media fucked Gore and bent over backwards to make him look like a loser. If we stay on top of things, this shouldn't happen. I think that the fact that even the right wing rags are saying Kerry won will silence some of those fascist harpies who are always willing to spread their legs for the Republican pigs.

in 2000 showed Gore slightly behind Bush, actually. No trouncing on the level we saw tonight. See here for CNN's take that year: http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/10/03/debate.wrap/

although I thought he could have attacked Bush a little better- I think that's what the Republicans expected and likely planned for.
Bush looked like a c student playground bully and Kerry chose not to hit him too hard in this context... which was not at ALL a wise move in the media cloud of August, but was probably a good play to the extent he pulled his punches here.
Next debate will be a different dynamic- and a different story.
