Lauer on Today-"We aren't going to use words like 'winner' or 'loser'"
First of all I am shocked by how well the press received Kerry's performance. Last night I posted this.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x934605

Sorry I was using the dumbed down expectations of this modern age of sound bites and over simplicity. I thought Kerry did great in the traditional "debate" sense but I tried to apply the infantile media speculation that is today's American media. Kerry won BIG TIME but I was expected the press to read from script, they didn't until........

The subject line quote was the lead on NBC this morning. Lauer said ~"A lot of people, even those who watched the debate, determine how the candidates did from the media's analysis of it so we aren't going to use words 'winner' or 'loser'....."

My wife and I cracked up and had to rewind it several times. Lauer looked like he finally had to take a bite of the shit sandwich-with expected consequences.

Katie interviewed John Edwards and after trying to lead him in to weakening the BIG win for Kerry (he didn't of course) she said "...yeah but the President said that Iraq was going to be hard work!!!"-----my wife heard me laughing from inside the shower.

Lauer interviewed Dan Bartlett and neither one could find themselves able to get around the talking points that we (me especially) expected this morning "strong" "decisive"" determined" "knows what he believes in" "knows where he stands" etc.

Again I have to say that I am SHOCKED that the press is saying it was such a clear win for Kerry.

2. I caught Dan Bartlett on Fox & Friends (don't ask) and he had
this wonderful line to say when asked about Laura and Teresa wearing similar suits (it's supposed to be a joke):

"We will launch a full scale investigation and heads will roll."

Gee, Dan thanks for the reminder of the numerous beheadings that have occurred since the mission was accomplished.

Again, it's one thing to have your head up your ass, it's another thing to enjoy the view!!!

6. My wife watched that this morning
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 08:10 AM by underpants
Not the Bartlett part but Fox and Friends ( I slept in a bit). The fact that my wife was watching that was shocking enough but what was hilarious (she told me) was that they weren't even talking about the debate they were "reviewing" the Suburban MAdness made for TV movie.

Hilarious.

ON EDIT-as noted above the "enjoying the view" thing is very funny 101er

16. They must have moved on later in the morning because first thing
they talked about it quite a bit. They even had a communications guy on who went through the body language of the participants. It was actually interesting. He talked about the difference in height of the men.

But, what he also said was Bush walked out too fast and caught up to Kerry too soon. As a result, he had to take extra time to walk to the podium while Kerry stood and waved comfortably to the crowd, establishing a rapport with the audience. While he was talking, they replayed that piece and it was obvious what he was talking about.

He talked more about the demeanor of the two men. He said Kerry's body language was on point: he stood tall and away from the podium in a commanding way while Bush leaned into the podium making himself appear small.

Now if Bush will just use the phrase "unbelievable clusterfuck" and we will have the Iraq trifecta.

3. It would be such a whopping lie, that they'd be exposed
for the liars that they are. Their spin only works if their viewers don't know they're being spun! They'll be ready to pounce after the next one, I'm sure.

5. Kerry must feel like a woman
in other words, you have to do twice as well to get half the credit. The fact that the press couldn't spin this as a massive victory for chimpy means he totally kicked butt.

Kerry: Excuse me Mr. President, I believe you dropped this.
Chimp: Uhhhhh
Kerry: Oh, it's your ass. LET ME HAND IT TO YOU. ha ha ha ha ha (etc.)

22. Hey,Mat! As for the "Hard Work" Mantra..
Then Edwards or the Surrogates must do the obvious:

"The President said it was Hard Work over two dozen times...maybe it's time for him to stand down. And take his group with him"

13. War profiteering GE Corp. tells him what to say.
What a shill! Not enough moral courage to state the obvious. Kerry looked like a President and Shrub looked like a spoiled frat boy. It must suck to be a media whore without an ounce of integrity.
