Bush Lies During Debate- Listed Here
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 08:47 AM by cryingshame
Please don't let Bush's major mistakes get swept under the rug.

These are MAJOR mistakes... not to be compared with Kerry's gaffe on misnaming the KGB office.

What Bush Said- Iraq has 100,000 FULLY trained Iraqi security forces.
What the REALITY is- Allawi said just last week there are only 50,000.

What Bush Said- Afghanistan has registered 10 million voters for upcoming elections.

What the REALITY is- Afghanistan only has 9.5 eligible voters overall.

Here's some pertinent info from Eric Alterman's article on American Progress site:
While it's true that over 10 million
people have registered to vote in Afghanistan, the untidy and largely unreported
fact of the matter is that the country only has a voting age population of about
9.5 million overall. The 10 million figure has grown to the level of absurdity
given the fact that a mere three months ago, President Hamid Karzai
maintained that only five million names were on the electoral list, in response to
reports from the Independent and the Christian Science Monitor of registration
figures numbering between 1.6 and 3 million. So a registration figure of 10
million leads one to wonder whether, secretly, Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris
have emigrated to Afghanistan.

Conspicuous evidence of voter fraud continues to circulate. In August, for
instance, the BBC reported that in the Panjshir Valley, the number of registration
cards that have been issued is two and a half times the estimated number of
eligible voters in the region.

1. AAR just said
that there are more people 'registered', because a lot of people are registering multiple times (sorry I'm not sure who said this)

7. Major Lies on WMD's implied
These lies are repeated over and over, so I know they are old, but still they must be constantly pointed out, at least as much as he repeats them...

But he specifically said that Saddam deceived the Weapons inspectors...

That's not a mistake or a misunderstanding. That's a lie. Saddam DID NOT HAVE WMD's! You CANNOT deceive someone about having WMD's if you do not have them!

This was one in a series of lies about how we got into the Iraq war though, but like I said, they must be pointed out.

Pentagon contradicts Bush on Iraq
Aljazeera
September 27th, 2004

(snip)
Training record

Pentagon documents paint an equally poor record on training. Of the nearly 90,000 currently in the police force, only 8169 have had the full eight-week academy training.

Another 46,176 are listed as "untrained" and it will be July 2006 before the administration reaches its new goal of a 135,000-strong, fully-trained police force.

Six army battalions have had "initial training" while 57 National Guard battalions, 896 soldiers in each, are still being recruited or "awaiting equipment".

Just eight National Guard battalions have reached "initial capability", and the Pentagon acknowledged their performance has been "uneven".

On edit I posted article on this thread yesterday but didn't realize how much this story contridicted the original story that started the thread
