I Felt Pity For Bush Last Night
I watched a debate last night where John Kerry's performance made George Bush look like the stumbling, bumbling, slow, slouching lout that he is. In last night's debate I saw a president of the United States of America, the greatest country in the world, that almost seemed to be showing early signs of dementia by being angry, confused and lost all at the same time. Anyone who has been around an Alzheimer's patient who has just been found after being lost for 3 days would recognize similar traits.

The best Bush was able to do was to keep rambling about Kerry changing positions. Bush had plenty of "ah's" and "um's". Bush was often hunched over the podium. Bush was unable to clearly articulate the reasons we are in Iraq and what our exit strategy is. In fact, Bush even dodged the issue of an exit strategy. Bush's facial expressions betrayed his confusion.

On the other hand, Kerry was always cool, composed, clear, articulate and "presidential". It even became clear that Kerry left a few of Bush's disjointed answers without a rebuttal as Bush's delivery and demeanor said more than Kerry could have said.

My favorite moment of the debate was when Bush stated that we were attacked and that's why we are in Iraq. Kerry responded that Iraq never attacked us. I also liked when Kerry stated there are some 30 countries that were closer to having weapons of mass destruction than was Iraq. Another great moment was when Kerry spoke of DeGaulle's famous remark about having the word of the president and that was good enough for him. The most memorable remark I heard Bush make was "(dammit), this is hard work".

Toward the end, I started to abandon the "take no prisoners" tone of this campaign and my liberal side took over. I actually started to feel pity for Bush as he seemed so lost and confused. Imagine that. Bush is arguably the worst president in American history and I felt sorry for him. I guess that's what makes us the good guys.

it should be painfully obvious by now that he is responsbile for nothing. His sole job function is to campaign. He makes no policy decisions, never read the 8/6 pdb, and still couldn't find iraq on a map. pitiful is the perfect description of the man.

27. Don't give him that out
Everyone around him has been giving him excuses all his life. Nothing is ever his fault. Well, you know what? He's the President. He IS responsible. And because of his stubborn inflexibility, we have over a thousand dead american soldiers, over 7000 wounded and who knows how many dead and maimed Iraqi civilians.

We have a quagmire in Iraq, our economy is a mess and our Homeland Security doesn't really exist. Don't give him yet another excuse - it's time for him to suck it up and TAKE responsibility. No way I'm letting him off for any of this!

32. I think he is delusional. He really believes he is president and can
do nothing wrong. I don't know how much he was prepped before the debate but it did not show. Those who were going to vote for him in Nov. are still going to vote for him. They are delusional as well. I also feel Kerry will win unless the voting machines are rigged. Somehow, some way the dirty tricks will appear.

My wife got home late, after the debate started and asked how it was going. I answered, "Kerry's doing pretty well, but Bush is messing up so badly, I actually am starting to feel bad for the guy". Poor little Shrub.

On the plus side, more time for him to play Nintendo after he's out on his ass in Jan!

Bush was, no doubt, wondering who the hell DeGaulle was.

Embarrassed as an American that he almost won the election in 2000, and is so inarticulate and bumbling that he has trouble putting a few words together and he can't think on his feet at all. I mean, foreigners watching that debate must think we're all fucking idiots to have allowed Bush to even win a primary back in 2000, let alone his party's nomination and then have the election close enough for him to steal.

Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 09:22 AM by Tar Heel Dem
"For those regarded as warriors, when engaged in combat the vanquishing of thine enemy can be the warrior's only concern. Suppress all human emotion and compassion. (Defeat) whoever stands in thy way, even if that be Lord God, or Buddha himself. This truth lies at the heart of the art of combat."

42. "I guess that's what makes us the good guys"--Empathy
Perhaps "empathy" is what separates liberals/progressives from right-wing/neo-con Fundies and Freepers. I too felt sorry for him: he was like a frightened child.

I think I understand what you are saying, Gman. He should never have been appointed POTUS. It was a cruel trick to play on him by the Bush Family criminals; all for profit and power. Yes, Bush is a bully; arrogant, greedy, and stupid. My mom would have said "Such a person should be pitied, not scorned." Well, mom, I found myself pitying Bush last night. But most the time I loathe him!

Having said that, this still doesn't excuse his actions these past 4 years. He still needs to be held accountable, along with his handlers. Even though at times Bush deserves pity, I still would whole-heartily support his arrest and trial, along with those in his cabinet, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Bush should have been on Orange Alert, though. Kerry obviously wiped the floor with him.

50. You're suffering from Stockholm Syndrome
That's where you begin to sympathize with your captors.

Shake it off, Gman! Shake it off! Don't let 'em get into your head!

:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

The Stockholm Syndrome is an emotional attachment, a bond of interdependence between captive and captor that develops 'when someone threatens your life, deliberates, and doesn't kill you.' (Symonds, 1980) The relief resulting from the removal of the threat of death generates intense feelings of gratitude and fear which combine to make the captive reluctant to display negative feelings toward the captor or terrorist. In fact, former hostages have visited their captors in jail, recommended defense counsel, and even started a defense fund. It is this dynamic which causes former hostages and abuse survivors to minimize the damage done to them and refuse to cooperate in prosecuting their tormentors.

He wanted this job? Fine. He knew that (at some point, long delayed of course) he would have to face questions he couldn't control or censor.

Let him squirm. Let him sweat. Let him purse his lips and hunch his shoulders and lean on the podium and grimace like a mandrill. Let him spin his little goo-goo ga-ga Freedom Phrases until he screws himself into the stage, his forehead dripping with flop sweat.

Guess what George? This isn't a pre-screened audience praising you for your faith in God. Welcome to prime time. True, you're more than a little late, but welcome just the same.

In the words of the British fighter ace Mick Mannock, when he heard of the death of the Red Baron, "I hope he roasted all the way down."

No pity for Bush. Not now, not ever.

Think of him saying in a mocking tone "Please don't kill me" about Karla Faye Tucker. Or the way he treated James Byrd's daughter when she asked for a hearing on the hate crimes bill after her dad had been killed being pulled behind a truck driven by racists.
