Bush's earpiece
A blog has mentioned that they saw wires around Bush's neck last night, and I am sure that I saw (on PBS, where they showed back views of the candidates), a squarish bulge on the back of Bush's suitcoat.

Screenshots, anyone? Would this explain Bush saying "Let me finish" when no one was talking to him? Or the looong time he took to start talking on several questions? Or the jarring non-transitions between topics he made?

Tinfoil firmly affixed.

2. how about when he demanded 30 sec, then said nothing
He rudely interrupted the moderator to get his 30 seconds, then stood there stammering like he was waiting for Karl to finish saying something.

...and the best he could come up with was the "mixed messages" talking point. Again.

5. Don't you mean "mexed missages?"
Cause that's what he said first.

3. I just chalked that up to him being a horrible speaker!!
I haven't heard anything about an earpiece or a box under his suit. I would be surprised though, I'm sure Kerry's people would have been all over that.

4. At first I thought it was a microphone of some sort
But that doesn't make sense - they had podium mikes.

Then again, I could hear B* tell Lehrer he had done a good job right after the debate, when he walked away from the podium. So maybe he had a body mike, too. Hmm.

Love your sig, by the way.

12. I believe both Kerry and Bush were miked with wireless lavalier mikes
which explains the slight bulge.

14. The earpiece issue has been widely discussed
here in the past. Most threads about this have been after one of his "press conferences."

7. I don't think Secret Service would have let him go without an earpiece
Isn't that how they communicate with him? You know, if "terra" should sudden appear in Florida?

11. Secret Service doesn't communicate with the president through an earpiece
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 10:52 AM by beaconess
They talk to each other that way because they're spread out all over the place. But if they need to tell the president - or any oof their other protectees - anything, they just tell them.

10. Occam's Razor
an earpiece is not necessary to explain Bush's horrid performance. He just looks bad compared to Kerry. Period.

16. Mom's first impression

At the first moment that Bush started to talk, my mom said,"What's wrong with him,why is his head bobbing? Does he have a ear piece or something?"

Mom is 85 so I was floored. I keep my tin hat on all the time and I did not notice.

I did see the shoulders looking weird but I did not notice any of the usual "earpiece clues."

I have it on TIVO and I will go back and take a look.
