Kerry and his 'gangly arms' - one of the pundits said, before the debate, |
|
that Kerry's arms look gangly and he wouldn't look so good waving them around in the debate. (I don't have a link and can't recall the pundit - help me out if you can)
However, John Kerry didn't wildly gesticulate - he used his hands for emphasis. The man has massive, expressive hands we could see contrasted against his dark suit, as he made his points. I don't have a good picture of him - but Kerry's hands are large and in charge!

1. See, that's something that plays a little 'big' when he's on a show. |
|
I thought that Kerry looked like his gestures were kind of 'big' for, say, The Daily Show. But I saw him speak in Springfield, Ohio and realized -- Kerry's 'on' all the time, he's talking to ten thousand people all the time, not just when they're in front of him. Standing at a podium on an otherwise empty stage (yes, that's a crack at the Naked Emperor), the gestures were 'just right.' They work when he's standing alone on a stage and speaking to a larger audience. It would be hard to trade that for having him look more coordinated in close quarters, wouldn't it? It does work when he has to 'play large,' and that seems to work just fine.
