Poland got a big laugh where I saw the debate.
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 12:30 PM by genius
I saw the debate at a tavern with about 200 people in a rich, conservative area. Afterwards, there was an impromptu polls and it went 100% in Kerry's favor.

The biggest laugh of the night was when Bush pointing out that Poland was part of the coalition.

The biggest applause (during a segment) was when Kerry mentioned George Senior and Iraq.

3. My theory why he mentioned Poland: Pennsylvania is full of Polish
immigrants and their descendants. He's going after the demographic.

4. didn't poland join the coalition after the invasion?
I can't find a link to that information, but thought that was the case. IF so, then JK was correct when he said we went in w/UK, Aus. and us.

5. I think you're right. I still stand my contention that this was pandering
to a select voting block in Pennsylvania. Otherwise, * would've rattled off the names of all the countries involved in this morass (if he's capable of such a parlor trick).

Pennsylvania has clusters of Polish-Americans that * is going after.

7. Pandering of the worst sort
Nothing against Poland, but they're not regarded as a nation that strikes fear in the hearts of fighting men today.

But you have to admit Poland sounds a lot more fearful than Tonga...

11. Yes that is true...
But Bush also made an error when he corrected Kerry to say he forgot to mention Poland supplied forces when the invasion began. Kerry said there were three countries —Great Britain, Australia and the United States — and Bush said, "actually he forgot Poland."

Poland later supplied troops, and actually commanded a zone of Iraq. But they were not part of the original ground invasion. And although Bush said there are 30 countries in the coalition, he neglected to say that about a half dozen countries have withdrawn their troops in recent months.
