IMPORTANT: Freepers talking about using scripts on polls |
|
From their site:
Freeping Polls a better method? (Vanity)
Posted on 10/01/2004 10:04:36 AM PDT by Names Ash Housewares
I think the DNC and DU are using software to sway the online polls. If they dont keep track of the IP Ive noticed that if you clear your cookies and cache you can vote all you want on some, tedious and time consuming. Now I know there is software to "teach" your mouse to do the same task over and over. THAT is what I think the left is doing. Some of these poll results are total jokes and simply not possible.

To: Names Ash Housewares Some are running robot scripts, others are attacking these polls by brute force. You would be better served to send every editor and talk radio host a copy of the DNC email that indicated they would flood every poll they could con after the debate.
They tried to DUpe the public. Phone polls have not shown these same 88% Kerry results. Democrats are desperate, this is all they can do to sway public opinion.

To: Names Ash Housewares You're right. Anyone with a little java expertise could write a script to vote over and over.
Which is why I feel most online polls are worthless.
Unfortunately, the average sheeple doesn't know this. I'm sure they are influenced by the online polls, even though most polls have a disclaimer.

To: Names Ash Housewares There was someone on FR that was quite good at hitting the polls. He could make them jump up hundreds of votes in seconds.

To: LesbianThespianGymnasticMidget I am too. But I think it can be seen as illegal (and possibly twisted into hacking) by hitting a poll on a site repeatedly with a script. Could be construed as a DDoS

To: BJungNan Hmm... we should have a central database, "surepticiously" check it. and let the thing fall into the DUmies hands... so that the vote they are thinking it gives, is not the real vote.

To: Crazieman Not a central script chief, a little gui you can run on your desktop, with it throttled of course to prevent DDosing a poll.

To: LesbianThespianGymnasticMidget Or better yet, no repeat votes, just one click and you voted the "party Line" on all polls in the db

To: Crazieman That's an excellent point. Being from Florida I can tell you many Republicans here are very afraid that with our hurricane situation we're very vulnerable to voter fraud. And if the Dem's are anywhere close to beating George all the lawyers will find a way to hijack our state for Kerry. I know were still about 30 days away from the election but my polling place is gone and no one has as of yet been able to tell me where I'll go to vote. You can all expect Florida to be an even bigger mess than in 2000. Just hope for GW to have a landslide victory so it doesn't matter.

making *ANY* poll jump a coupla hundred votes is easy - which is also why ALL polls on the internet ARE BULLSHIT! The bad thing is - there are still alot of people thinking polls are a good representation of the truth. Modifying cookies (or sometimes even turning them OFF), spoofing IP address, running scripts....or here's the best one. Run in frames or iframe a script for posting to polls on busy websites, that's the easiest way to gain hits on polls from different IP addresses by people who are totally unaware what's happening in the background. Please note, most of it is conciderred hacking.....

18. Possible YES, ethical NO |
|
Believe me when I say I have been "tempted" many times to make a poll jump in our favor. However, I have not for a variety or reasons... none of them being technical all of them being ethical.
Personally, if a group has to resort to "fudging" results to try an influence others, then well... they are simply republicans.

The country saw a train wreck in slow motion last night. They are reacting in the polls. Deal. With. It.
